Liza Grobler (born 1974) is a South African Mixed Media artist who lives and works in Cape Town, South Africa. Grobler works in a diverse range of media, embracing bright colours and often incorporating traditional craft techniques to create site-specific work. [1]

Biography

Grobler received her master's degree in Fine Art with distinction from Stellenbosch University in 1999, after which she worked towards developing a signature aesthetic involving bright colours and diverse media. Grobler' work often incorporates traditional craft techniques such as beadwork and she has collaborated with The Quebeka Bead Studio to produce beaded works. [2] [3] She has participated in close to a hundred group shows both in South Africa and abroad - in Italy, Brazil, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Australia, Spain, the United States and Finland. She attended residencies and workshops in the US, Norway, Finland and Switzerland. [1] Her work resides in many notable collections including the Jeanetta Blignaut Art Consultancy Collection. [3] Grobler has also been an art critic and regular contributor for daily Afrikaans newspaper Die Burger. [4] Grobler lives and works in Cape Town with her artist husband Norman O’Flynn and son, Storm.

In 2012 Grobler unveiled 'White Termite' at BRUNDYN + GONSALVES. [5]

Grobler's work was also included in 'ALPTRAUM!', a 2011 group drawing exhibition which travelled between Cell Project Space, London; Deutscher Künstlerbund Projektraum, Berlin; The Company, Los Angeles and 'Blank Projects', Cape Town. [6]

Liza Lou American visual artist (born 1969)

Liza Lou is an American visual artist. She is best known for producing large scale sculpture using glass beads. Lou ran a studio in Durban, South Africa from 2005 to 2014. She currently has a nomadic practice, working mostly outdoors in the Mojave Desert in southern California. Lou's work is grounded in domestic craft and intersects with the larger social economy.

Infecting the City

Held in Cape Town, South Africa Infecting the City is a public arts festival that is committed to making art freely available to everyone. The festival hosts a range of different types of site-specific art, art intervention and performance art in the central part of the City. Each year the festival takes on a social issue or theme which the participating artists respond to. In 2011, the Festival worked with Cape Town's artistic and cultural community to present public art under the theme of Treasure. This theme was intended to celebrate the artistic traditions and contemporary practices of the diverse communities within South Africa and to explore Cape Town's "Afropolitan" reality.

S. A. Agulhas II is a South African icebreaking polar supply and research ship owned by the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA). She was built in 2012 by STX Finland Rauma shipyard in Rauma, Finland, to replace the ageing S. A. Agulhas, which was retired from Antarctic service in April 2012. Unlike her predecessor, S. A.
