Lloyd Dobler Effect was a Silver Spring, Maryland-based band formed in 1995 by Phil Kominski and Scott Shaw after departing their high school band, STUFF. They brought in drummer Donnie Williams and the name "Lloyd Dobler Effect". [1] The band performed alternative rock music, which at times featured Latin rhythms, vocal harmonies and go-go percussive beats. [2] The band was named after John Cusack’s character in the Cameron Crowe film Say Anything.. [3] In 2019, Lloyd Dobler Effect broke up. Fans of the band can now see THE BREAKAWAYS or PHIL KOMINSKI SOLO: The Breakaways (featuring Lloyd Dobler Effect lead vocalist, guitarist and song writer PHIL KOMINSKI, as well as past Lloyd Dobler Effect members) and Phil Kominski's Solo Project.

The band performed in more than 15 countries, 37 states and at over 300 college campuses. Between 2004 and 2012, the band performed over 250 gigs a year, often playing two per day in the summer. [4] The band has headlined three tours for the Armed Forces Entertainment, including trips to the Middle East and Asia. In 2002, they won the WHFS BIG BREAK COMPETITION to open the main stage at the 2002 HFSTIVAL. In 2002, the band won the Kahunaville Battle of the Bands to open the main stage at THE MOLSON SNOW JAM in Boston, MA. In 2003, the band opened for the Goo Goo Dolls. In 2005, the band signed with Gary Katz (Producer of Steely Dan) and Camille Barbone's (Manager of Madonna) record label, WINE DARK RECORDS. Phil Kominski has been a sponsored artists of ELIXIR GUITAR STRINGS since 2003. In November 2007 they won a Boru Vodka-sponsored, Battle of the Bands , which resulted in a sponsorship with the spirits Castle Brands Company. [3] In 2010, the band signed with Bob Winegard's record label, IMAGEN RECORDS.

Caribbean Jazz Project was a Latin jazz band founded in 1993. The original group featured Dave Samuels, Paquito D'Rivera, and Andy Narell. After their second album, D'Rivera and Narell left the group, although both returned as guest stars. Under Samuels' leadership, the group explored different genres of latin jazz with a changing membership and numerous guest artists. The band released nine albums under the Caribbean Jazz Project name and one as the featured backing band for jazz singer Diane Schuur. The final album with Samuels, Afro Bop Alliance, featured the Maryland-based Afro Bop Alliance Big Band led by drummer Joe McCarthy and won the 2008 Latin Grammy Award for Best Latin Jazz Album. Railroad Gin were an Australian soul and R&B group from Brisbane, formed in 1968. In 1970 they were joined by Laurie Stone on keyboards, vocals, saxophone and trombone. Carol Lloyd joined in 1970, becoming lead vocalist in September 1971.They released two albums on Polydor, A Matter of Time (1974) and Journey's End (1976), before disbanding in 1977. Australian musicologist, Ian McFarlane, observed, "[they] made an impact with its sweaty, full-tilt gigs and a commercial blend of soul, brassy R&B; and percussion-driven hard rock." Founding member Shields died in May 2006. Lloyd died in February 2017 of interstitial pulmonary fibrosis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, aged 68.

Woodstock – Back to the Garden: 50th Anniversary Experience is a live album by various artists, packaged as a box set of ten compact discs. Released by Rhino Records during the summer leading up to the fiftieth anniversary of the Woodstock Music and Art Fair, it contains selections from every performance at the music festival, which took place on August 15–18, 1969, in Bethel, New York. The discs also include stage announcements and miscellaneous audio material. The package contains essays by producer Andy Zax and Jesse Jarnow, details about the performers and notable festival figures, and photographs. This box set is a compilation derived from its limited edition parent box set. A smaller three-CD or five-LP sampler was also released.


Leonid and Friends is a Chicago tribute band based in Moscow. Leonid and Friends started as a YouTube band and now also tours. The band leader and founder is Leonid Vorobyev. Vorobyev is a multi-instrumentalist, a recording studio sound engineer and choir conductor by training at the East Siberian Institute of Culture. Vorobyev made his first Chicago video recording in 2014 of the song Brand New Love Affair. With former Kyiv, Ukraine vocalist Serge Tiagniryadno, Leonid and Friends YouTube videos have gone viral, with views in the millions. Leonid & Friends have recorded three Chicago tribute albums, titled Chicagovich. After touring in Russia, the band first toured the United States in 2019. In 2018, songs by Earth, Wind, & Fire, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Tower of Power and The Ides of March were added to the playlist. Leonid Vorobyev's son, Roman Vorobyev (b.1991), is the band’s manager. The band's setup features bass and lead guitar, drums, keyboards, saxophone, trumpet and trombone, with occasional flugelhorn, French horn, flute, metal clarinet, cello and violin and miscellaneous percussion.
