He played college football for the Michigan Wolverines football from 1970 to 1972, earning consensus All-American honors in 1972. He was a second-team All-NFL player in 1980, and his streak of 159 consecutive games is the second longest in Eagles history.

Jon Beutjer is a former American football quarterback. As a senior at Wheaton Warrenville South High School he threw for a then-national high school record of 60 touchdowns in a 14-game season, winning several Illinois High School Player of the Year honors in the process. He began his college football career at the University of Iowa, ending Iowa's 19-game losing streak with a victory over Michigan State during the 2000 season. Beutjer joined the Iowa basketball team as a walk-on, seeing very limited action in six games during the 2000-01 season. During the summer of 2001, Beutjer with roommate and fellow football teammate Sam Aiello got in a dispute over a cable bill, which resulted in Beutjer being knocked unconscious in a parking lot. Beutjer wound up transferring to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. After sitting out the 2001 season per NCAA transfer rules, he played for the Illini during the 2002 and 2003 seasons. He was granted a 6th year of eligibility in 2004, where he split playing time with sophomore Brad Bower. After finishing his college football career, Beutjer played in the Arena Football League and Canadian Football League. In 2008, he signed on with the All American Football League for Team Michigan. However, as of 2011 the league has not gotten off the ground. He now works as a physical education teacher and is the current head football coach at Lyons Township High School in LaGrange, IL and announced on December 9, 2013 that he is expecting his first child.

He played college football at Wheaton College (IL), and was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the sixth round of the 2008 NFL draft. He is a descendant of the Studebaker brothers, creators of the now-defunct automobile by the same name.

The 2012 Russell Athletic Bowl was a postseason American college football bowl game held on December 28, 2012, at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida in the United States. This was the first under the Russell Athletic moniker after eight game under Champs Sports. The 23rd edition of the Russell Athletic Bowl began at 5:30 p.m. EST and aired on ESPN. It featured the Big East Conference co-champion Rutgers Scarlet Knights against the Virginia Tech Hokies from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), and was the final game of the 2012 NCAA Division I FBS football season for both teams. The Hokies accepted their invitation after achieving a 6–6 record in the regular season, while the Scarlet Knights accepted theirs after achieving a 9–3 record.
Markus Levonte Wheaton is an American former professional football player who was a wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Oregon State Beavers and was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round of the 2013 NFL draft. He also played for the Chicago Bears and Philadelphia Eagles.
Magnus Mainland was a college football lineman and college basketball player and founding coach for The University of Texas at Austin. Mainland was a native of Scotland. Mainland was a nationally known basketball player as an undergraduate student at Wheaton College (Illinois). His Wheaton team was able to compete in the college basketball competition in the 1904 Summer Olympics in St. Louis, the first Olympic Games featuring the young sport. Wheaton placed second out of the three competing college basketball teams. Following his graduation from Wheaton, Mainland enrolled in engineering courses at The University of Texas. While a student there, he was able to convince University officials to permit him to organize, coach, and play on the university's first varsity basketball team. The Longhorns took the court for the first time on March 10, 1906, defeating the Baylor Bears 27–17 at outdoor Clark Field. Texas won seven of the eight games scheduled in its inaugural season. Mainland's second and final season as head coach resulted in a 4–4 overall record. Due to inadequate funding, the University Athletics Council canceled the basketball program after two seasons, leaving Texas without a basketball team for 1908. The program was reinstated in 1909 under the direction of UT German studies faculty member and previous Longhorn football head coach (1907–08) W. E. Metzenthin, who had supported students in their efforts to have the program revived.
The 1946 College Conference of Illinois football season was the season of college football played by the member schools of the College Conference of Illinois (CCI) as part of the 1946 college football season. The CCI was formed in May 1946 and was a reorganization of the "Illinois College Conference" that had existed for the prior nine years.
