Logos is the debut full-length studio album by Canadian alternative rock band Selfish Things, released on 20 September 2019 through Pure Noise Records. The album was produced by Drew Fulk and it features Andy Leo of Crown the Empire, former Yellowcard frontman William Ryan Key and Underoath's Spencer Chamberlain.
Throughout 2018, Selfish Things were working on their debut album while being on the road to promote their EP Vertical Love.
Lead singer Alex Biro chose the title months before the release: "I’ve been incredibly fixated by Carl Jung, the psychoanalyst and his grand interpretation of life and the world. To achieve logos is to truly ascend. The whole album revolves around that idea and concept. I had been having a hard time coming up with a name and then I was reading The Red Book and came across that. It just stuck." [1]
He explains the idea behind the record: "I want people to know that there is strength in your faults. It’s just as important to suffer as it is to find moments of joy and happiness. Darkness and light need one another." [2]
On 26 October 2018, the band released the single, "Flood". Biro explains: "I felt like I needed to find a way to talk about human complacency in the face of destruction beyond gun violence. Our species has this off-putting, innate ability to let things go to shit so long as it doesn’t directly impact us as individuals." [3]
On 22 February 2019, they revealed the single "Drained", that features William Ryan Key, former singer of Yellowcard. [4]
On 26 June 2019, they released "Pride", a song that "defines what it feels like to be the odd man out in a place you don’t belong." [5]
On 4 August 2019, the band announced the details of Logos, and they premiered the single "Hole", [6] followed by "Blood" on 30 August. "Blood" features Andy Leo of Crown the Empire on vocals. [7]
On release day, Selfish Things premiered the single "Mind", accompanied by a music video. [8]
The album has received positive reviews from critics: it has been regarded as an intimate record with a focus on human feelings and vulnerability[ citation needed ] with a "fusion of sound from modern punk, to new age rock, to emo pop-ballad slow burners". [9] At the same time, it has been noted that the execution of the tracks is far from perfect, as they are "in need of much more development" with an "amount of potential that doesn’t feel lived up to whatsoever". Lacuna Coil is an Italian gothic metal band from Milan. Since their formation in 1994, the group has had two name changes, being previously known as Sleep of Right and Ethereal, and they have recorded nine studio albums, two extended plays, two live albums, two compilation albums, one video album, and sixteen singles and music videos.
Yellowcard is an American rock band that formed in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1997. Their official lineup currently consists of lead singer Ryan Key, lead guitarist Ryan Mendez, bassist Josh Portman and violinist Sean Mackin. Primarily a pop-punk group, their music is recognized for having a distinct and unique sound in its genre due to their prominent use of a violin. The group's most-recognized singles include "Ocean Avenue", "Only One", and "Lights and Sounds". Released in 2003, "Ocean Avenue" and its parent album of the same name are both certified double platinum and platinum in the US respectively by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA); "Only One" and the band's 2006 album Lights and Sounds have been certified gold. The band has released ten studio albums, with its most recent, Yellowcard, released on September 30, 2016. Following this release and supporting tour, the quartet disbanded. They reunited in September 2022 for a performance at Riot Fest and embarked on a 20th-anniversary tour for Ocean Avenue in 2023. A new EP, Childhood Eyes, was released on July 21, 2023.
Ocean Avenue is the fourth studio album by American rock band Yellowcard. It was released on July 22, 2003, through Capitol Records. After touring to promote their third album One for the Kids in 2001, the band signed to the label in early 2002. Following this, bassist Warren Cooke left the band in mid-2002, and was replaced by Inspection 12 guitarist Peter Mosely. In February and March 2003, the band recorded at Sunset Sound in Hollywood, California, with Neal Avron. Ocean Avenue is a pop-punk and punk rock album, which was compared to Blink-182 and Simple Plan.
Superheist are an Australian nu metal band formed in 1993 by mainstay guitarist and backing vocalist DW Norton. They have released five studio albums, the first two, The Prize Recruit (2001) and Identical Remote Controlled Reactions (2002), reached the top 20 on the ARIA albums chart Four singles, "Crank the System" (2000), "Bullet" (2001), "7 Years" and "A Dignified Rage" peaked in the ARIA singles chart top 50. At the ARIA Music Awards of 2001 their producer-engineer Kalju Tonuma was nominated for Producer of the Year and Engineer of the Year for The Prize Recruit. At the 2002 ceremony, Norton and Adam Rhodes were nominated for Engineer of the Year for "A Dignified Rage". They disbanded in 2004. After a twelve-year hiatus, Norton reformed Superheist with new members. Their third studio album Ghosts of the Social Dead (2016) reached No. 3 on the AIR Charts. They issued two non-charting studio albums, Sidewinder and MMXX. Founding drummer Sean Pentecost died in 2020.
"Rough Landing, Holly" is a song by the American pop punk band Yellowcard. The song was written collaboratively by all the band members for their fifth album, Lights and Sounds (2006). The track is built around an introductory guitar sound, followed by a soaring chorus, and heavy beating drums. "Rough Landing, Holly" is one of the songs from the album that is based on a character, Holly Wood, that Yellowcard had developed while working on Lights and Sounds. Despite its name, the song has nothing to do with the plane crash of Buddy Holly.

"Ocean Avenue" shares writing credits between the band's singer Ryan Key, guitarist Ben Harper, bassist Pete Mosely, drummer Longineu W. Parsons III, and violinist Sean Mackin. It was written about the band's teenage years along the Atlantic Coast. Neal Avron, a veteran punk rock producer, engineered and produced the tune.
"Lights and Sounds" is a song by American pop punk band Yellowcard. The song was written collaboratively by all the band members for their fifth album, Lights and Sounds (2006). The track is built around a guitar riff, which is then followed with a repetitive drumming beat, then it is followed by a roaring guitar sound. The song's lyrics are based on the band coping with the success they were enduring when writing songs for their second album. It is also based on how they have aged in the process. "Lights and Sounds" also goes with what vocalist Ryan Key described as when he was preoccupied with making the album.
"What I've Done" is a song by American rock band Linkin Park. It was released as the first single from their third studio album, Minutes to Midnight (2007), and is the sixth track. The song was released as a radio single on April 1, 2007, as a digital download on April 2, and as a CD single on April 30. The live version of "What I've Done" from Road to Revolution: Live at Milton Keynes was nominated for Best Hard Rock Performance at the 52nd Grammy Awards, but did not win.
