Lojain Omran (born 26 October 1977 [1] [2] ) is a Saudi Arabian television presenter and social media personality. She presented a show on a channel in Bahrain and is a cast member on the Netflix original reality television show, Dubai Bling (2022). [3]

Early and personal life

Omran was born on 26 October 1977 [1] in Jubail, Eastern Province. Her father is Ahmed Omran and she has three siblings, two brothers Mazen Omran and Basil Omran and a sister actress Aseel Omran. [1] [4] [5] She moved to Bahrain in 2001, where she continued her banking career and later became an operations manager at Alawwal Bank, formerly Saudi Hollandi Bank. [6] She later worked at Citibank in Bahrain before becoming an Operations Manager at Fotoon Edu-Tinment, a position she held until 2004. [3]

She is believed to have been formerly married to Sheikh Salman Al-Thani, and with whom she has two children, a son named Samir and a daughter named Jilan, the latter of whom reportedly got married in Bahrain in December 2018. [1] She is currently married to Saif Al-Mansoori, a prominent businessman from the United Arab Emirates. [7]

Career

Omran's TV programmes before Good Morning Arabs! included The Situation with Lojain, Ya Hala, Around the Gulf and World of Eve. [5]

Forbes included her at number 55 in their 2017 list of 100 Arab celebrities, one of five Saudi people listed. [8]

Omran has been described as "one of the most influential media personalities in the Middle East". [9] [10]

Omran has more than 11 million followers on her Instagram account, [11] and as one of the five "most popular fashion and beauty influencers" affecting millennials in the UAE. [12] Gulf Business listed her as number 87 in its Arab Power List 2018, describing her as an "Influencer / TV Host". [13] [14]

Mass media in the United Arab Emirates is subject to government control and censorship. Media freedom is severely curtailed in the UAE. Most UAE media is owned by the government or by groups that have ties to the government. UAE law permits the government to censor content critical of the government. Journalists and writers who criticize the government are subject to repression.

The Al Bu Shamis or Al Shawamis is an Arab Bedouin tribe that mostly inhabit the southeastern part of the Arabian peninsula. They are located mainly in Northern Oman, the United Arab Emirates, and to a lesser extent Kuwait, Qatar, eastern Saudi Arabia, Bahrain. Due to the large nature of the tribe, there are today in fact many branches that trace themselves to the Al Bu Shamis tribe.

Al Khaleej is a daily Arabic-language broadsheet newspaper published in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates by Dar Al Khaleej. The daily is the first newspaper published in the country.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2024 Persian Gulf floods</span> Severe Flooding of the Persian Gulf in April 2024

In April 2024, heavy rain severely impacted states in the Persian Gulf, causing flash flooding across the region. Several states recorded nearly a year's worth of rain in a single day. The floods had a significant impact across the region, with Oman and the United Arab Emirates being particularly affected, resulting in the deaths of at least 46 people, including 20 in Oman, and 18 in Iran. Yemen, Bahrain, Qatar, and the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia also experienced heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding.
