Lollipops & Politics was to be the second studio album by British recording artist V V Brown, initially planned to be released in February 2012. [1] It was to include her single "Children" which was performed with Chiddy. [2] When Brown previewed the album for Santa Monica's KCRW, her new songs were met with positive criticism by Todd Martens of the Los Angeles Times . [3]
Vanessa Brown, known professionally as VV Brown, is a British indie pop singer-songwriter, model and record producer.
"Children" is a song by English recording artist V V Brown, initially released as the lead single from her shelved second studio album Lollipops & Politics. Written by Brown, the song also guest features American rapper Chiddy and was released to US iTunes on 20 September 2011. Brown later confirmed via Facebook that the song would be released in Europe at a future date; however this planned release was scrapped when Brown decided not to release the album. The song samples the classic children's playground song "Do Your Ears Hang Low?" in the beginning and end of the song.
Chidera Anamege, now known by his stage name Chiddy Bang, is an American hip hop recording artist. Prior to its breakup, Chiddy Bang was an American hip hop duo consisting of Anamege, under the stage name Chiddy, and Noah Beresin, under the stage name Xaphoon Jones. The duo was introduced by former band member Zachary Sewall in late 2008 while the two were studying at Drexel University, in Beresin's hometown of Philadelphia. Anamege's sound is based on the fusion of hip hop and alternative using samples from artists such as Ellie Goulding, Radiohead, Sufjan Stevens, Passion Pit, MGMT, Matt and Kim and Yelle. In 2013, Beresin left the group to focus on producing, and Anamege became a solo artist, with Beresin playing the role as frequent collaborator. Since departing from the group, Beresin has changed his stage name to Noah Breakfast.
The title was chosen by V V Brown due to her interest in politics, but still wanted to make an album that was sexy, and combined the two concepts into "Lollipops & Politics". [4]
Lollipops & Politics was originally scheduled for release on 7 February 2012, but on 31 January Brown tweeted that the LP had been delayed until the summer, for unconfirmed reasons. Later, responding to Twitter questions, she said to her fans that the delay was to add a few songs to the track listing upon release. [1] This delay was then later pushed back to 2013. "Famous" was meant to be the 2nd single. She promoted it by previewing and playing the track but due to the hype and swift upheaval of it projected the concept of fame. It was not successful because it left the album under-promoted due to failure of not being released as planned. On 16 November, Brown stated on Facebook that she was not going to be releasing the album and would be releasing a brand new album in 2013 instead. [5] The album leaked in full on 12 September 2015. [6]
The following track listing was released to the Amazon MP3 store prior to the album's initial delay and subsequent cancellation.
