[1] The Loloda Kingdom is the oldest kingdom in North Maluku, whose territory covers the northwest coast to the southwest coast of Halmahera Island. [2] In the 19th century to the early 20th century, Loloda had district status with sangaji leadership, [3] As a district under the Dutch hierarchy, it was located in the Darume and later became the first district capital after becoming part of the Republic of Indonesia. Alferis Banggai (10 April 1895), King of Loloda who ruled in those years. [4]
The Loloda Kingdom was not one of the four main kingdoms in the spice archipelago (Bacan, Jailolo, Ternate, Tidore). The entire territory of Loloda's power was along the northwest coast to the southwest coast of Halmahera Island. Including two island clusters, namely South Loloda which is currently included in the administrative area of West Halmahera and North Loloda which is included in the administrative area of North Halmahera. [5]
The system of government that led the power of the Loloda kingdom was initially kolano which was replaced by sangaji when the king was dismissed by the Dutch Colonial Government. [3] The Loloda Kingdom did not have that much influence in Maluku. [6] The Loloda Kingdom was not invited to the Moti Treaty talks. In the Maluku region, the Loloda kingdom only had the status of sangaji or subordinate to the sultan or kolano in Maluku. [7]
Before Islam entered North Maluku, the people of Loloda and some other Ternate Island did not embrace any religion. [8] Even though the Loloda Kingdom was once known as an Islamic kingdom, Loloda was not included in the Moti Alliance (Motir Verbond), the rulers of Loloda also did not have the title of sultan but rather kolano then sangaji.
