The organisation was set up in 1999 by the food writer Nina Planck, based on her experience of selling produce from her family farm at Farmers' Markets in Virginia, USA. The first Farmers' Market set up by LFM in London was in Islington in 1999, quickly followed by Farmers' Markets in Notting Hill, Blackheath, Peckham and Swiss Cottage.
The Islington Farmers' Market is still running, having moved location more than once. It now takes place on the historic Chapel Market site every Sunday. [1]
There are now 20 Farmers' Markets operated by LFM in London, [2] all of which are certified by FARMA.
In February 2012, it was announced by FARMA that Queen's Park Farmers' Market was the first Farmers' Market in London to win their Farmers' Market of the Year award, held jointly with Mosely Farmers' Market in Birmingham. [7]

Fulham Broadway is a London Underground station on the Wimbledon branch of the District line. It is between West Brompton and Parsons Green stations and is in Travelcard Zone 2. The station is located on Fulham Broadway (A304). It is the nearest station to Stamford Bridge stadium, the home of Chelsea Football Club. The London Oratory School is also nearby. The station is in a cutting that was originally open air until it was covered by the 'Fulham Broadway Shopping Centre' development.
Parsons Green is a mainly residential district in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. The Green itself, which is roughly triangular, is bounded on two of its three sides by the New King's Road section of the King's Road, A308 road and Parsons Green Lane. The wider neighbourhood is bounded by the Harwood and Wandsworth Bridge Roads, A217 road to the East and Munster Road to the West, while the Fulham Road, A3219 road may be said to define its northern boundary. Its southern boundary is less clearly defined as it merges quickly and imperceptibly with the Peterborough estate and Hurlingham.
