Long Beach Yacht Club is a private yacht club in Long Beach, California. It was founded in 1929. [1]
In November 2018 it was announced that the club has officially challenged for the 2021 America's Cup in January and February 2021 in Auckland, NZ.
The club maintains a fleet of Catalina 37 limited production racing boats, specifically designed race in the Congressional Cup, an event hosted by LBYC. [2]
Long Beach Race Week is hosted by the Alamitos Bay Yacht Club and the Long Beach Yacht Club. [3] is the Southern California Keel Boat championship that has ushered summer into Southern California for 35 years.
By the end of 2018, The Americas Cup Committee accepted a second American challenge from Taylor Canfield and the LBYC,. [4] This makes a total of 6 teams competing in The PRADA Cup Challenger Selection Series for the right to challenge the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron for the America's Cup in early 2021.
By the beginning of 2020, the LBYC challenge was considered doubtful. [5]
The Long Beach Yacht Club Junior Sailing Program runs June 17-August 2. It is open to LBYC member families with children ages 6–17.

The America's Cup, informally known as the Auld Mug, is a trophy awarded in the sport of sailing. It is the oldest international competition still operating in any sport. America's Cup match races are held between two sailing yachts: one from the yacht club that currently holds the trophy and the other from the yacht club that is challenging for the cup. Matches are held several years apart on dates agreed between the defender and the challenger. There is no fixed schedule, but the races have generally been held every three to four years. In 1998 he was selected as the US Rolex Yachtsmen of the Year. He has won seven world championships, twice participated in the Olympic Games and seven times in the America's Cup. The 34th annual America's Cup was a series of yacht races held in San Francisco Bay in September 2013. The series was contested between the defender Oracle Team USA team representing the Golden Gate Yacht Club, and the challenger Emirates Team New Zealand representing the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron. Oracle Team USA defended the America's Cup by a score of 9 to 8 after winning eight consecutive races from Race 12 onwards, with Team New Zealand blowing a 8 to 1 lead. Team New Zealand won the right to challenge for the Cup by previously winning the 2013 Louis Vuitton Cup. The 34th America's Cup's race schedule was the longest ever, in terms of number of days and number of races, and the first since the 25th America's Cup to feature both teams in a match point situation. In addition for the first time since 1995, the format of the schedule changed so that the winner emerged from the best of 17 races.

The 2017 America's Cup was the 35th staging of the America's Cup yacht race. The challenger, Emirates Team New Zealand, won by a score of 7 to 1 over the defender, Oracle Team USA. It was held on the Great Sound in Bermuda from June 17 to June 26. The races were conducted using hydrofoiling AC50 America's Cup Class yachts, which are slightly larger than the AC45F yachts used in the 2015–16 America's Cup World Series.
Taylor Canfield is a United States Virgin Islands sailor competing in match racing. He won the ICSA Match Racing National Championship with Boston College in 2010 and 2011, and the 2013 World Match Racing Tour and became 2013 World Champion in match racing.
America II is a racing sailboat and one of the final America's Cup 12 Meters. There were a total of three America IIs commissioned for the New York Yacht Club's challenge in the 1987 America's Cup. These were US 42, 44 & 46 and all boats were named America II.
The 36th America's Cup in March 2021 was the latest staging of the America's Cup yacht race. It was contested on the inner Hauraki Gulf off Auckland, New Zealand, between the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron and Circolo della Vela Sicilia of Italy. The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron's boat was Te Rehutai owned and sailed by the Emirates Team New Zealand syndicate. Circolo della Vela Sicilia's boat was Luna Rossa, owned and sailed by the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli syndicate. Both boats are AC75 class high-performance foiling monohulls, a class designed specifically for this competition. The Cup was won by Team New Zealand, 7–3.
The 37th America's Cup will be raced between a yacht representing the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron and a yacht representing the yacht club that wins the Challenger Selection Series. It will be held in Barcelona, Spain, in September and October 2024.
