Lorenzo Richelmy (born 25 March 1990) is an Italian actor, best known to audiences outside of Italy for his performance as the title character in the Netflix original series Marco Polo . Prior to being cast in the series, he appeared in several Italian television shows and films.

Early life

Richelmy was born in La Spezia to parents Marco and Vivienne and moved to Rome with his family when he was four. He attended the liceo classico Giovanni Paolo II di Ostia Lido. Having begun his career as a child, Richelmy was the youngest actor ever accepted to the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia. [1] [2]

Marco Polo is an American drama television series inspired by Marco Polo's early years in the court of Kublai Khan, the Khagan of the Mongol Empire and the founder of the Yuan dynasty (1271–1368). The show premiered on Netflix on December 12, 2014. The series was created by John Fusco and stars Lorenzo Richelmy in the title role, with Benedict Wong as Kublai Khan. It was produced by The Weinstein Company. On January 7, 2015, Marco Polo was renewed by Netflix for a 10-episode second season, which premiered on July 1, 2016.
