Taylor launched Premier Eye Care in 1993 and was still CEO as of 2015. [2] Premier is a managed care company that provides medical review, authorization and payment services in the field of ophthalmology. As of 2014 it had 2.7 million customers in Florida and about 300,000 people outside Florida. [3]

Channelside is a nickname for the entertainment complex Channelside Bay Plaza, within the neighborhood that includes shops, restaurants, and bars. It is located next to the Florida Aquarium, American Victory Museum, Port Tampa Bay and a short stretch on the Tampa Riverwalk to the Tampa Bay History Center. Also located in the district is the Amalie Arena where the NHL's Tampa Bay Lightning play their home games. The Arena also hosts concerts and other events. The center of the Bay Plaza has a large open court for live music, with views of the downtown skyline, cruise ships and the Port of Tampa. It also houses a Sony Giant Screen theater. The TECO Streetcar has several stops in the district. Also, NEVs are being utilized by startups to link Tampa's core neighborhoods including Channelside. The Tampa Convention Center is located adjacent to the district to the west.

ASI is headquartered in St. Petersburg, Florida. These expansion goals are largely attributed to its acquisition by Progressive in April 2015. While this transaction allowed Progressive to have a controlling interest of 67%, Progressive has owned as much as 5% since 2012. The company paid $875 million for the acquisition. The strategic partnership between the two companies is meant to allow them to compete in the coveted insurance "bundling" market. Dottie Berger MacKinnon (1942–2013) was a lifelong children's advocate who raised millions to establish safe havens for at-risk kids. She was a Hillsborough County Commissioner from 1994–1998, serving as its chairman from 1996–1997. She was the co-founder of Joshua House and Friends of Joshua House in 1992, a temporary safe location in Lutz for abused and unwanted children. She helped to create a $1.2 million endowment to ensure that it continues. She also established A Kid's Place in 2009, a 60-bed temporary location for foster-care to help siblings to stay together. She was on the board of directors at Tampa General Hospital from 2000 to 2007. On May 4, 2011, she received the Ellsworth G. Simmons Good Government Award by the Hillsborough County Commissioners. She also received the annual award that year from Hood Simply Smart Milk and the League of Women Voters. In 2012, she received the “Woman of Influence Award” from the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce. In 2013, she was posthumously inducted into the Florida Women's Hall of Fame.
