The Los Angeles Conference on Magic History is a biennial invitation-only conference created to showcase historical magic. The conference was started in 1989, designed to highlight various aspects of the history of magic from around the world. Each conference features a series of re-created performances and lectures from famous and well noted magicians. The event is co-hosted by Ricky Jay, Mike Caveney, John Gaughan and Jim Steinmeyer. Past conferences have featured unique recreations of historical illusions, including effects from Guy Jarrett, David Devant, John Nevil Maskelyne and Dr. Samuel Cox Hooker. [1] [2] [3]

Harry Blackstone Sr. American magician and illusionist

Harry Bouton Blackstone was a famed stage magician and illusionist of the 20th century. Blackstone was born Harry Bouton in Chicago, Illinois. He began his career as a magician in his teens and was popular through World War II as a USO entertainer. He was often billed as The Great Blackstone. His son Harry Blackstone Jr. also became a famous magician. Blackstone Sr. was aided by his younger brother, Pete Bouton, who was the stage manager in all his shows. Blackstone Sr. was married three times. Blackstone Jr. was his son by his second wife.

Houston Museum of Natural Science Natural history museum in Houston, Texas

The Houston Museum of Natural Science is a natural history museum located on the northern border of Hermann Park in Houston, Texas, United States. The museum was established in 1909 by the Houston Museum and Scientific Society, an organization whose goals were to provide a free institution for the people of Houston focusing on education and science. Museum attendance totals over two million visitors each year. The museum complex consists of a central facility with four floors of natural science halls and exhibits, the Burke Baker Planetarium, the Cockrell Butterfly Center, and the Wortham Giant Screen Theatre. The museum is one of the most popular in the United States and ranks just below New York City's American Museum of Natural History and Metropolitan Museum of Art and the M. H. de Young Memorial Museum in San Francisco in most attendance amongst non-Smithsonian museums. Much of the museum's popularity is attributed to its large number of special or guest exhibits.

Jim Steinmeyer magical illusion designer

Jim Steinmeyer is an American author, inventor, and designer of magical illusions and theatrical special effects. He holds four US patents in the field of illusion apparatus, including a modern version of the Pepper's Ghost illusion. Steinmeyer has consulted for many famous magicians, including David Copperfield, Doug Henning, Siegfried and Roy, and Lance Burton.

The MAAC Men's Basketball Tournament is the conference championship tournament in basketball for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). The tournament has been held every year since 1982, the MAAC's first season. It is a single-elimination tournament and seeding is based on regular season records. The winner, declared conference champion, receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA men's basketball tournament. The MAAC did not receive its automatic bid from the NCAA until 1984.

David Devant was an English magician, shadowgraphist and film exhibitor. He was born David Wighton in Holloway, London. He is regarded by magicians as a consummate exponent of suave and witty presentation of stage illusion. According to magic historian Jim Steinmeyer, Devant was “England’s greatest magician—arguably the greatest magician of the 20th Century”.

John Nevil Maskelyne English stage magician

John Nevil Maskelyne was an English stage magician and inventor of the pay toilet, along with other Victorian-era devices. He worked with magicians George Alfred Cooke and David Devant, and many of his illusions are still performed today. His book Sharps and Flats: A Complete Revelation of the Secrets of Cheating at Games of Chance and Skill is considered a classic overview of card sharp practices.In 1914 he founded the Occult Committee, a group to "investigate claims to supernatural power and to expose fraud".

Luís de Matos Portuguese magician (born 1970)

Luis de Matos is a Portuguese magician. He has been called “the best known illusionist in Portugal” and was the co-winner of the "Golden Grolla" in 2013 alongside Lu Chen and Dynamo.

John Gaughan

John Gaughan is an American manufacturer of magic acts and equipment for magicians based in Los Angeles, California. His style of work is classic, not based heavily on machinery and technology.

The 1957 Ohio State Buckeyes football team represented the Ohio State University in the 1957 Big Ten Conference football season. The team was led by captains Galen Cisco and Leo Brown. They were the third national title team in Ohio State football history. They were coached by Hall of Fame coach Woody Hayes. The Buckeyes were awarded the title by the UPI Coaches Poll and represented the Big Ten Conference in the Rose Bowl.

The 1982 Ohio State Buckeyes football team represented the Ohio State University in the 1982 Big Ten Conference football season. The Buckeyes compiled a 9–3 record, including the 1982 Holiday Bowl in San Diego, California, where they won, 47–17 against the BYU Cougars.

The 1989 Indiana Hoosiers football team represented the Indiana Hoosiers in the 1989 NCAA Division I-A football season. They participated as members of the Big Ten Conference. The Hoosiers played their home games at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Indiana. The team was coached by Bill Mallory, in his sixth year as head coach of the Hoosiers.

The 2009–10 NCAA Division I women's basketball season began in November 2009 and ended with the 2010 NCAA Women's Division I Basketball Tournament's championship game on April 6, 2010 at the Alamodome in San Antonio. The tournament opened with the first and second rounds on Thursday through Sunday, March 18–21, 2010. Magic (illusion) Performing art

Magic, which encompasses the subgenres of illusion, stage magic, and close up magic, among others, is a performing art in which audiences are entertained by tricks, effects, or illusions of seemingly impossible feats, using natural means. It is to be distinguished from paranormal magic which are effects claimed to be created through supernatural means. It is one of the oldest performing arts in the world.

Charles Otte is an American theatre director, producer, designer and educator. He is best known as a theatre and multi-media director working in New York and Los Angeles. Otte was born in Cleveland Ohio. He received a B.A. from the University of Virginia, and an M.F.A. from the University of Southern California.

Adam Mada

Adam Mada, known professionally as The Wizard of Oz, is an Australian magician, entertainer, magic/illusion designer & director, speaker and magic consultant. He is the Australian magic & Illusion associate for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and the Magic/Illusion designer & director for Possum Magic. He is the resident magician for Studio 3 on ABC3, and the famed weekly live cabaret El Circo in Sydney Australia, he was the inspiration for 2 characters in the Novel Siren by Tara Moss, Adam was cast in Band of Magicians, supergroup in 2015.
