Santa Barbara County, California, officially the County of Santa Barbara, is located in Southern California. As of the 2010 census, the population was 423,895. The county seat is Santa Barbara, and the largest city is Santa Maria.

The Central Coast is an area of California, United States, roughly spanning the coastal region between Point Mugu and Monterey Bay. It lies northwest of Los Angeles County and south of San Mateo and Santa Clara counties, and includes the rugged, undeveloped stretch of coastline known as Big Sur. From south to north, there are six counties that make up the Central Coast: Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Monterey, San Benito, and Santa Cruz.
Los Padres National Forest is a United States national forest in southern and central California. Administered by the United States Forest Service, Los Padres includes most of the mountainous land along the California coast from Ventura to Monterey, extending inland. Elevations range from sea level to 8,847 feet (2,697 m).

Ernest Righetti High School is a public comprehensive secondary school in Santa Maria, California, United States, serving students in grades 9-12. The school is part of the Santa Maria Joint Union High School District. Righetti is a fully accredited, two-time California Distinguished School, awarded in 2002 and 2009. Righetti High School was built in the suburban community of Orcutt, California in 1963 to relieve overcrowding at Santa Maria High School, opening in January 1963 and graduating its first class in June 1964. The school was named for a local civic leader whose family has engaged in cattle ranching in the Santa Maria area for several generations. The school's boundaries encompass several elementary school districts that serve the communities of Orcutt, Guadalupe, Los Alamos, Sisquoc, Garey, and Casmalia, as well portions of the city of Santa Maria and rural northern Santa Barbara County.

The Pac-8 League was a high school athletic conference in California that was affiliated with the CIF Southern Section (COF-SS). Member schools were located in San Luis Obispo and northern Santa Barbara counties. Prior to the 2014–15 school year, the conference was known as the Pac-7 League; Mission Prep High School joined as the eighth member. The Pac-8 League was dissolved in 2018 after its member schools left the CIF-SS for the CIF Central Section and formed a new conference, the Central Coast Athletic Conference, with members of the Los Padres League.

It is one of ten sections that comprise the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). As of the 2018-19 academic year, the Central Section consists of 122 member schools, including the newly admitted Central Coast schools, distributed among 19 leagues.
The Freelance League is a name for a loosely defined high school athletic league that is part of the CIF Southern Section. Member schools are small schools. The word "Freelance" describes that they find competitive situations where available without a formal league structure. Schools are spread across the entire section from San Luis Obispo County to San Bernardino County and Riverside County. In certain sports some of these teams are part of other leagues.
Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League (SCCAL) a high school athletic conference part of the CIF Central Coast Section of the California Interscholastic Federation. It comprises high schools generally around Santa Cruz County, California. Not all schools participate in all sports.
The Central Coast Athletic Association (CCAA) is a high school athletic conference in California that is affiliated with the CIF Central Section. The association was established in 2018 and consists of 13 schools in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties that previously were members of the CIF Southern Section and two of its constituent conferences, the Pac-8 and Los Padres leagues. The CCAA uses a system of promotion and relegation to place each school's teams, by sport and gender, into either of two leagues periodically based on performance.
