Plot

Lost in Karastan [3] is a gentle black comedy about a confused British director, Emil, who is hired to direct a production in the Caucasus region. The country, Autonomous Republic of Karastan, is led by an eccentric corrupt but benign dictator. There Emil embarks on one of the wildest journeys of his already diverse career. [4]

Lost in Karastan [5] [6] premiered in the UK [7] as the opening film of the London Comedy Film Festival [8] [9] (LOCO) [10] on 22 January 2015. [11]

Awards

At Filmfest Hamburg, [12] the film won the 'Hamburg Producers Awards' [13] for the best 'European Cinema Co-production' and 'German-European Cinematic Production', [14] presented to Daniel Zuta and Vladimer Katcharava.

Ben Hopkins was nominated for the 'Grand Prix des Amériques' award at the Montréal World Film Festival [15] in 2014. [16]

Gurov and Anna is a Canadian drama film, directed by Rafaël Ouellet and released in 2014. The film stars Andreas Apergis as Ben, a literature professor in Montreal who is obsessed with Anton Chekhov's short story "The Lady with the Dog", and begins trying to act it out in his real life by commencing a love affair with his student Mercedes in which he can be the Gurov to her Anna.

The 34th European Film Awards were presented in Berlin, Germany on 11 December 2021. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the awards went ahead without an in person audience, taking the form of a hybrid event, including pre-produced and live online.
