Ary Scheffer was a Dutch-French Romantic painter. He was known mostly for his works based on literature, with paintings based on the works of Dante, Goethe, and Lord Byron, as well as religious subjects. He was also a prolific painter of portraits of famous and influential people in his lifetime. Politically, Scheffer had strong ties to King Louis Philippe I, having been employed as a teacher of the latter's children, which allowed him to live a life of luxury for many years until the French Revolution of 1848.

He was the second son of Giuseppe Quaglio and part of the large Quaglio pedigree of Italian artists involved in architecture, indoor fresco decoration, and scenography for the court theaters. He was known as a landscape and architectural painter/decorator, including quadratura.

He was involved in the purchase and resale of the great French Orleans Collection of art, selling it on to a British syndicate, and owned a fashionable art gallery in Savile Row, London. His book, Biographical and Critical Dictionary of Painters and Engravers, first published in 1813–1816, was a standard reference work throughout the 19th century, and was last republished in 1920; however it is now badly outdated.

Friedrich Hohe was a German lithographer and painter. Born in Bayreuth, Bavaria, in 1802, his first painting teacher was his father, who was himself a painter. In 1820 he entered the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Munich. Thereafter, from 1823 till near the end of his life, he devoted himself to lithography.
Eugene van Maldeghem, also known as Romaan Eugeen Van Maldeghem, was a Flemish painter of history, landscape, and portraits. He was a pupil of G. Wappers. The Museum of Fine Arts, Ghent contains his 'Charles V. at the Hospital of St. Just', and the Brussels Museum contains his 'The Bishop St. Alphonse'.

Jan Baptist Francken was supposed to be a painter from the Francken family and/or the son of Sebastian Vrancx, but is now considered to have been an error and to have never existed. The confusion was created by the many painters named Francken, some poor attributions, and a portrait by Anthony van Dyck of a certain Johannes Baptist Franck, aged 32, of whom nothing more is known. He is sometimes said to be the same as Hans Francken, another obscure member of the same family.
