Synopsis

Antoine and Julie find themselves by chance installed side by side in the plane which brings them back from New York to Paris. Julie is about to marry her love Franck. Antoine a lawyer by profession is a womaniser who happened to get a business class seat(next to Julie) as he is desperate to get to Paris for a job interview.

The issue is that Julie and Antoine are past lovers who broke up 3 years ago. In the seven hour flight they need to find a way to be social to each other. After bragging a little how fulfilled their lives are (which obviously isn’t) both of them are looking for an escape from the other. Antoine makes his way to the only vacant seat in plane in economy and calls his best friend Hugo. Similarly Julie calls her mother. Both Hugo and Julie’s mother advice the couple on how to face each other. Once back in his seat the couple starts interacting with co passengers and reminisce of their relationship.

A couple of years back Julie had met Antoine in a party, where she accidentally went to the men’s room. Antoine is attending the party with Hugo who is a nurse in an elderly centre. Hugo is eyeing Stephanie( who is sister to a girl Antoine dated once). Julie find Antoine charming but is warned about him by her friends who call him a womaniser. Stephanie makes advances on Antoine by telling how when she was younger she used to fantasise about Antoine whenever she saw him with her sister. Antoine awkward at the advance runs to escape her and sits in a car that is being occupied by Julie. Julie remarks on his philandering ways while also being a little smitten. She asks Antoine what would he do in the next one hour if her got a chance to woo her. Antoine takes her to the Eiffel tower, bribes a security to let them up and shares a champagne with her while the Eiffel Tower shines. He is about to lean for kiss when Julie stops him. They are going down when Antoine starts doubting his moves and feels champagne was too much. They part ways. The next day Julie talks about Antoine to her mom who says Julie doesn’t takes risks etc. This prompts Julie to ask Antoine for a date. Meanwhile Antoine explains to Hugo how he has not met anyone like Julie and how is excited to see her again. At the date both are nervous at first, Julie isn’t drinking but finally starts once she starts seeing the waitress swooning over Antoine. Julie’s mom has given her advice on how to judge the guy by pondering on the two entree and then going to bathroom. If the guy orders one entree he is a pushover but if he waits for her to return he is spineless. Julie tries this on Antoine but before she could leave for bathroom Antoine asks the waitress to get both entrees saying they will share and eat. This impresses Julie. The couple have a great time with Julie even talking about her dad which she doesn’t do. In the end of date when Antoine tries to kiss her again she says she won’t go out with him and had come to the date to reject him. Antoine disagrees and tries to kiss her again this time she kisses back establishing them as a couple.

In present Julie is overwhelmed and escapes to the empty seat in economy to return when the guy next to her tells her that he booked two seats for himself. On her return she notices the co passengers talking about Eiffel tower and gets a little upset on Antoine for telling them about her. But now she continues the story so that there are no further details missed.

Back to when the were dating they had a great time with each other but Antoine’s past image made Julie doubt him, making him delete Facebook account and blocking girls. To this Julie responds that the reason she was upset was because Antoine had stood her up the night before. Antoine explains that before that day he knew Julie had important client coming over for her sculpture and expected to be there. But he had to meet Hugo, who was on a date with Stephanie. Stephanie had agreed on the date on the condition that Hugo brings Antoine. Hugo tells Stephanie that Antoine is in love that hurts Stephanie causing her to leave. Hugo then realises that Stephanie was using him to get to Antoine and gets drunk. Antoine unable to abandon Hugo misses going to Julie. Julie on the other hand has to face embarrassment because her friends and mother expected to meet Antoine there.

Cut to present Julie again complains on how incredibly sad she was that night only to Antoine to correct her.

Back then after making sure Hugo was okay he goes to Julie’s house, argued with her mother to come inside and asked Julie to move in with her. He packed all her things took her with him to his house and emptied closet for her, settled her belongings etc. This all to show how happy he was with her.

Back in present there is a severe turbulence and the couple finds themselves holding hands and expressing their love for each other. Once the turbulence settles they both realise their mistake in admitting their real feelings on the account of how they broke up.

Back to past again Antoine recalls how he was in her house one morning when an admission officer from Tokyo had called for Julie. Julie dreamt to go to Tokyo for studying art and was accepted. In a fit of panic over losing her Antoine asks her admission to be canceled as Julie was busy tending her mother who had cancer. As soon as he does he regrets it, he tries to undo it hy offering the admission officer money but the position was already accepted by another student. Julie in a fit of rage breaks up with him, moves out of his home and stops taking his calls. After a while Antoine is miserable and so is Julie. While talking to her mother about Antoine and her mother’s exes she realises her love for him and rushes to his apartment. She confesses her love tells she wants to get married to a suprised Antoine who was with Stephanie moments ago and has Stephanie hiding in his closet. Unexpectedly Hugo comes at this moment telling Stephanie called him there. He calls her cellphone, causing a half dressed Stephanie come out of the closet. Julie ends the relationship and runs away.

Present Julie explains again how hurt she was when she didn’t even hear an apology from Antoine for weeks. Antoine replies that she doesn’t know what happened after she left and why Stephanie was there in first place. He explains how Stephanie had called him saying she had something urgent to talk about regarding Hugo, Antoine let her inside his apartment where she started to force herself onto him just as Julie came. Stephanie wanted to spoil Antoine’s friendship with Hugo by showing him that Antoine broke Hugo and her up to have Stephanie for himself. Antoine also explained how he ran after Julie only to stumble down the stairs and break both his legs. He was hospitalised for weeks and once discharged he came to meet Julie, at her mother’s place. Her mother explained how Julie was not in France anymore, he requested her to let Julie know about him. He also explains how he searched for anyone with her name where her mother told but couldn’t find her.

To this the present Julie responds saying she took a huge loan to study art in Berlin. The co passengers now expect the couple to kiss and reconcile but Julie claims she is getting married in a couple of days and won’t change her mind. They reach Paris, where they part ways on the airport. Julie’s fiancée has sent a chauffeur to pick her up while Antoine makes way to his interview.

In a surprising twist the person Antoine is interviewing for is Julie’s fiancé. Julie in the adjacent room hears Antoine botching up the interview. She hears Antoine say that it doesn’t matter if he doesn’t get this dream job as he has already lost the love of his life today. He thanks Frank for the opportunity and leaves. Julie beginning to doubt her relationship with Franck talks to him and realises that she would like to have adventurous risky life with Antoine than a boring stable one with Franck.

Julie breaks off her engagement and chases Antoine’s cab. Finally making it through she sits in his cab as he once did and they reconcile heading towards the Eiffel Tower.
