St. Landry Parish is a parish located in the U.S. state of Louisiana. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 82,540. The parish seat is Opelousas. The parish was established in 1807.

Considerable media attention at the time focused on Madonna's behaviour during the festival.

The first Friday was dubbed "Bill Murray Day", as festival organisers dedicated a day to the actor by screening a select number of his films for free.

It was Gassman's first film as director. It was screened at the Locarno Film Festival in 1957.
