After the 2013 general election, and the coming into effect of the new constitution, provinces became defunct and the country was now divided into 47 counties. Each county has its own government and therefore there is no central regional capital. Western Province became the Western region, comprising four counties: Kakamega, Bungoma, Vihiga, and Busia.

Siaya County is one of the counties in the former Nyanza Province in the southwest part of Kenya. Vihiga County is an administrative region in the former Western Province of Kenya whose headquarters are in Mbale, the largest town in the county. The county has a population of 554,622 and an area of 563 km2. Formally a district, Vihiga was split from Kakamega District in 1990. In 2019's census, Vihiga was found to have a population of 590, 013, an increase of 35, 391 from the 2009's count.
Nyamninia is a village in the Gem Location, Yala division of Siaya County, Kenya. Situated approximately 30 miles from Kisumu city, Nyamninia is home to the 100 kilowatts medium wave radio transmitters set up by Voice of Kenya (VoK); now renamed Kenya Broadcastic Corporation (KBC). It was the birthplace of the legendary Gem clan chief, Odera Kang'o who started a rice plantation scheme in the area about one hundred years ago. The Gem chief was responsible for construction the numerous schools in the region before his enforced exile in 1915, to Kampala, Uganda by the British colonialists.
Muhoroni is a town in Kisumu County, Kenya. Muhoroni hosts a town council. It has an urban population of 13,664 and a total population of 31,148. Muhoroni has a railway station along the Nairobi-Kisumu Railway. The town is located 50 kilometres east of Kisumu Chemelil, a smaller town, is located 10 kilometres west of Muhoroni. Cost of living in Muhoroni is so high and densely populated housing.
Maseno is a town in Kisumu, the third largest city in Kenya. It is located along Kisumu - Busia highway 25 kilometers to the provincial capital and it is in north west ward. Another road connects Maseno to Vihiga town, located 15 kilometers east of Maseno. The equator passes through Maseno. Kombewa is located 10 kilometers west of Maseno. The altitude of Maseno is 1,503 metres or 4,934 feet above sea level.
Mbale is a town in Kenya. It is the capital and largest town of Vihiga County. It is also called Maragoli, after the indigenous inhabitants of the area.

The Nyole, also known as Nyore, are a tribe of the Luhya nation from Bunyore in Western Kenya. Native speakers of the Nyole dialect of Luhya refer to themselves as Abanyole.
Bunyore is a locality in the Vihiga County in the western province of Kenya. It is largely inhabited by Luhya, who speak the OLunyole dialect of the Luhya language. In the local language, the place is known as Ebunyore and its people as the Abanyore. It is divided into eight locations namely Central Bunyore, West Bunyore, South Bunyore, South-West Bunyore, East Bunyore, North Bunyore, North East Bunyore, and Wekhomo. Prior to 1990, Bunyore was under Kakamega District, divided into East and West Bunyore locations. As population increased, the former West Bunyore was split into Central, West, South and South West locations while the former East Bunyore was split into North, North East, Wekhomo and East Bunyore locations in order to better serve the people.

Kondele is a district of the city of Kisumu, the third largest city in Kenya, and the second largest city, after Kampala, in the Lake Victoria Basin. Kondele is the most densely populated of the three satellite towns of Kisumu metropolitan region, the others being Maseno and Ahero. It is Kisumu City's most notable region and cultural identifier and one of the most densely populated regions in Kisumu County, Kenya. It lies on the A1 road that connects Kisumu and Vihiga. The town is administered by the Kondele County Assembly ward, an administrative ward which is part of the wards that represent Kisumu Central constituency in Kisumu county assembly. The ward is represented by the Kondele Member of County Assembly.
