The second campus established under the University of Illinois system, UIC is also the largest university in the Chicago area, having more than 33,000 students enrolled in 16 colleges.

Besides the professional degree, the College also offers programs leading to six master's degrees and four doctorate degrees, covering a spectrum of research areas within the pharmaceutical sciences.
The University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System is a member of the Illinois Medical District, one of the largest urban healthcare, educational, research, and technology districts in the USA. The University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System itself is composed of the 485-bed University of Illinois Hospital, outpatient diagnostic and specialty clinics, and two Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) that serve as primary teaching facilities for the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) Health Science Colleges. From 1983-1986 Alexander Furman received his bachelor’s in mathematics and computer science over at Hebrew University. He completed his master’s in mathematics from 1987-1989, also at Hebrew University. In 1991-1996 he earned his PhD in mathematics from Hebrew University.
Niki M. Moutsopoulos is a Greek periodontist and immunologist. She is a senior investigator in the oral immunity and infection section at the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research. Moutsopoulos specializes in oral immunology and periodontitis. Her research program focuses on host-microbial interactions that can drive chronic inflammatory responses and tissue destruction in the oral cavity.
