Lukunor is an Island and municipality in the state of Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia. [1]

It is a small atoll part of the Nomoi Islands group, located about 264 km to the southeast of Chuuk. [2]

History

Lukunor was first sighted by Europeans by the Spanish expedition of Álvaro de Saavedra shortly after August 1528 in its first attempt to return to New Spain. [3]

Federated States of Micronesia Country in the western Pacific

The Federated States of Micronesia is an independent republic associated with the United States. It consists of four states – from west to east, Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei and Kosrae – that are spread across the Western Pacific Ocean. Together, the states comprise around 607 islands that cover a longitudinal distance of almost 2,700 km (1,678 mi) just north of the equator. They lie northeast of New Guinea, south of Guam and the Marianas, west of Nauru and the Marshall Islands, east of Palau and the Philippines, about 2,900 km (1,802 mi) north of eastern Australia, 3,400 km southeast of Japan, and some 4,000 km (2,485 mi) southwest of the main islands of Hawaii.

Satawan island group

Satawan Atoll is an atoll located about 250 kilometres (160 mi) southeast of Chuuk Lagoon proper. Geographically it is part of the Nomoi or Mortlock Islands in the Carolines and administratively it is part of Chuuk State in the Federated States of Micronesia. About 3,000 people live on a land area of 5 square kilometres (1.9 sq mi).

Chuuk State is one of the four states of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). The other states are Kosrae State, Pohnpei State, and Yap State. It consists of several island groups:

<i>Pteropus pelagicus</i> species of mammal

Pteropus pelagicus is a species of fruit bat in the family Pteropodidae. It includes two subspecies that were formerly recognized as full species— Pteropus insularis and Pteropus phaeocephalus. It is endemic to Micronesia. It is threatened by habitat loss.

Namonuito Atoll island group

Namonuito Atoll, also called Namonweito, Weito, or Magur Islands, is the largest atoll of the Federated States of Micronesia and of the Caroline Islands with a total area of 2,267 square kilometres, unless one considers the still larger Chuuk (Truk) Lagoon as a type of atoll in an early stage of development. In Micronesia, only Kwajalein Atoll of the Marshall Islands is still larger.

Moch is an islet of the Satawan Atoll and a municipality in the state of Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia. The island covers an area approximately 0.28 square km, and supports a population of around 700 people.

Pulap island group

Pulap or Pollap is an atoll with a total area of 31.321 km², of which 0.992 km² is emergent land, consisting of three islands, Pollap in the north, Tamatam in the south, and Fanadik at the western fringe of the reef. The atoll is located in the Pattiw group in the Caroline Islands, located about 140 miles (230 km) to the west of Chuuk.

Ulul municipality

Ulul is a village and municipality in the state of Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia. An airstrip on Ulul allows regularly scheduled flights by Caroline Islands Air to the capital, Weno. Structures on the island include a school, municipal buildings, residences, and ruins of fortifications built during World War II.

Hall Islands island group

The Hall Islands are a group of two large atolls in the northern part of the state of Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia. In the broader sense, a third and smaller atoll is included.

Fayu Atoll island group

Fayu Atoll is an uninhabited atoll in the state of Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia. It is located 36 km to the west of Nomwin Atoll and 104 km north of Chuuk Lagoon.

The Nomoi Islands, also known as Mortlock Islands, are a group of three large atolls in the state of Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia. They are located about 250 kilometres to the southeast of Chuuk.
