Lutfar Rahman Sarkar (1930s – 24 June 2013) [2] was a Bangladeshi economist who served as the sixth Governor of Bangladesh Bank, the central bank of Bangladesh during 1996–1998. [3] [4] He served as a part-time faculty member of the University of Dhaka. [2]

Sarkar served as the executive president and chief executive officer of Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd. [5]

Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd. (IBBL) is the pioneer of Islamic banking in Bangladesh. It became incorporated on 13 March 1983 as a public limited company under the Companies Act 1913. It has 36.91% local and 63.09% foreign shareholders. Up to Dec 2016, IBBL has 332 branches including 59 AD Branches & 03 Offshore Banking Units as well as has more than 13,500 staffs. In addition to that IBBL maintains its own 497 ATM Booths, 33 IDM along with 6,000 shared ATM network across the country. IBBL mobilizes around 29% of the country remittance. In 2015, it serves US$3,903.21 million out of US$15,316.75 million of total country remittance. As such, IBBL is the largest private banking network in Bangladesh. When IBBL was established, it was the first bank in south-east asia to provide banking service based on Shariah. The bank is listed with both Dhaka Stock Exchange Ltd. and Chittagong Stock Exchange Ltd.

Nobody can be a member of Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir, unless he/she is a student. All of the member of Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir are young students. It is the largest Islamic students organization in southeast Asia.

Motiur Rahman Nizami Bangladeshi politician

Motiur Rahman Nizami was a politician, former Minister of Bangladesh, radical Islamic scholar, writer, the former leader of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and war criminal. He was the leader of the anti-Bangladesh militia group Al-Badr during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. On 29 October 2014, he was convicted and executed for his role in masterminding the Demra massacre by the International Crimes Tribunal of Bangladesh. He was the Member of Parliament for the Pabna-1 constituency from 1991 to 1996 and again from 2001 to 2006. He also served as the Bangladeshi Minister of Agriculture and Minister of Industry.

Atiur Rahman Bangladeshi economist

Atiur Rahman, born 3 August 1951, is a Bangladeshi development economist, writer and banker. He served as the 10th Governor of Bangladesh Bank, which is the central bank of Bangladesh. He has also been called "the banker of the poor" for his contributions in developing the economy of Bangladesh. Atiur Rahman is credited for instituting changes in the banking industry of Bangladesh that greatly increased the foreign exchange reserves of the country and brought massive automation and digitization in the banking sector of Bangladesh. Huge achievements during his tenure include the creation of the National Payment Switch of Bangladesh; introducing automated check clearing for banks in Bangladesh using local currency cheques; starting mobile banking, which lets people carry out banking transactions via SMS or apps; establishing the Bangladesh Electronic Funds Transfer Network (BEFTN), which is a system of transferring money from one bank account directly to another bank without paper money ever changing hands; and installing the Bangladesh Automated Clearing House (BACH), which permits rapid electronic inter-bank transfers within the country with automatic adjustment of accounts. On 15 March 2016, he resigned as the governor of the central bank after the cyber hacking and theft of US $101 million in foreign reserves from the Bangladesh Bank account held at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

The Al-Badr was a paramilitary force composed mainly of Bihari Muslims which operated in East Pakistan against the Bengali nationalist movement during the Bangladesh Liberation War, under the patronage of the Pakistani government.

Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed Bangladeshi politician

Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed was a former Bangladeshi politician who served as a Member of Parliament and as the Minister of Social Welfare from 2001 to 2007 of Bangladesh and was convicted of war crimes during the 1971 Liberation war of Bangladesh. He received death penalty by the International Crimes Tribunal of Bangladesh on 22 November 2015, becoming one of the world's first Ministers to be hanged. He was second in command of the infamous paramilitary force, Al-Badr in 1971, which committed war crimes at that time. Until his death, he was the Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. On 17 July 2013, Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujaheed was found guilty of war crimes such as genocide, conspiracy in helping to kill intellectuals and abduction during the 1971 Liberation war of Bangladesh by the International Crimes Tribunal-2 and sentenced him to death for 2 of the 7 charges brought against him. High Court rejected his review petition on 18 November 2015.

Tofail Ahmed (politician) Bangladeshi Politician, Minister of Commerce, Government of the Republic of Bangladesh

Tofail Ahmed is a Bangladeshi politician serving as the Jatiya Sangsad member from Bhola-1, a constituency he has held since 2014 and also during 1991–2001. Previously he served as the Minister of Commerce and Minister of Industries of the Government of Bangladesh.

Shah Abdul Hannan is a Bangladeshi Islamic philosopher, writer, economist, educator and media personality. He served as the deputy governor of the Bangladesh Bank and chairman of the National Board of Revenue. He was the founder vice chancellor of Darul Ihsan University, North South University, chairman of Islamic Economics Research Bureau and the director of Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd.

Salman Fazlur Rahman is a Bangladeshi industrialist who is also a member of the Jatiya Sangsad. He was ranked 1685th on the list of billionaires in the world published by Beijing-based Hurun Gobal in 2017. He is the current vice chairman of Beximco Group, one of the largest conglomerates in Bangladesh. Since 2009, he has been serving as the private sector development affairs adviser to the Bangladesh Awami League President Sheikh Hasina. Currently he is acting as the president of several trade bodies including Association of Television Channel Owners (ATCO). In January 2019, he was appointed as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's adviser on private industry and investment.

The Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), also called Ansar Bangla is an Islamic extremist organization in Bangladesh, implicated in crimes including some brutal attacks and murders of atheist bloggers from 2013 to 2015 and a bank heist in April 2015. The gang was outlawed days after the bank robbery by the Ministry of Home Affairs on 25 May 2015. The group has been claimed by police to be linked to Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami party in Bangladesh.

He currently holds office of Administration and Discipline at Police Head Quarters, Dhaka. He is also the General secretary of Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation and Vice president of International Kabaddi Federation. Beside the responsibility of police, he is also known for his special activities and working for underprivileged people of the country, especially transwomen and water gypsies.
