System of a Down is an Armenian-American heavy metal band formed in Glendale, California, in 1994. It currently consists of members Serj Tankian, Daron Malakian, Shavo Odadjian, and John Dolmayan (drums), who replaced original drummer Andy Khachaturian in 1997.

Mezmerize and Hypnotize both debuted at number #1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, making the band one of the few to achieve this with two albums in the same year. Hypnotize was the last album System of a Down released before going on a four-year hiatus in 2006, and the band didn't release new music for more than a decade, until late 2020 when they unexpectedly released two new songs.

Franky Perez is an American musician best known as a solo artist, former touring vocalist of Finnish Cello-based metal band Apocalyptica, and as former guitarist for Scars on Broadway. He has released three solo albums, Poor Man's Son, My 4th of July and Addict, and performed with guitarist Slash in his live band before Slash assembled the touring band that backed him during his first full solo tour with Myles Kennedy. Perez has also collaborated with Slash's VR bandmate Dave Kushner, releasing songs under the pseudonym of DKFXP, as well as the virtual band Pusher Jones, contributing the song "Count Me Out" to The Avengers soundtrack.

The album was self-released in 1999 by the band and then re-released in 2004 when Bad Acid Trip signed to System of a Down vocalist's label Serjical Strike in 2004. The concert was held to honor their frontman, Chester Bennington, who died by suicide on July 20, 2017. The concert took place on October 27, 2017, at the Hollywood Bowl. This was Linkin Park's first performance following Bennington's death. The concert featured various artists, including Blink-182, members of System of a Down, Korn, Avenged Sevenfold, Sum 41, Bring Me the Horizon, Civil Twilight, A Day to Remember, Yellowcard, and Kiiara.
