M. Shafiullah is a retired diplomat and former Ambassador of Bangladesh to Libya. [1] [2] He was a Senior Research Fellow at Bangladesh Enterprise Institute. [3] He is a former Press officer of President Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding President of Bangladesh. He is a director of the Centre for Governance Studies, a think-tank. [4]

Early life

Shafiullah has a master's in psychology from the University of Dhaka. [5]

Career

During the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971, Shafiullah was stuck in West Pakistan. [5] He returned to independent Bangladesh by crossing the border with Afghanistan. [5] He served as the Press officer of President Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from 1972 to 1975. [5] [6]

Shafiullah was the Director-General for Middle East and North Africa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. [5] In 1991 after Saddam Hossain invaded Kuwait, he worked on repatriating 70 thousand Bangladeshi expats from Kuwait. [5]

Shafiullah was made ambassador of Bangladesh to Libya in 1995. [5] He was concurrently accredited to Malta, State of Palestine, and Tunisia. [5] [7] He tried in 2001. [5] He said Afghanistan joined SAARC with the support of the United States and indirect support of India. [8]

Shafiullah was a Senior Research Fellow at Bangladesh Enterprise Institute from 2002. [5] He was the project coordinator of the Charting a Roadmap for Transition to Business-to-Business e-Commerce project of the Bangladesh Enterprise Instittue. [9] He praised 2018 Bangladesh road-safety protests and the 2018 Bangladesh quota reform movement. [10] He has been critical of Bangladesh-India relations describing it as unbalanced and in favor of India. [11]

Kazi Mohammed Safiullah, BU, also known as K M Safiullah, is a retired Bangladeshi general, former Chief of Army Staff of the Bangladesh Army, and former Member of Parliament. He gained prominence for leading the S Force, a prominent brigade during the Bangladesh Liberation War that played a pivotal role in the conflict of 1971.

The King of Bhutan was the first world leader to announce official recognition of Bangladesh's independence on 6 December 1971. Sultan Shahriar Rashid Khan was a Bangladeshi army officer who was convicted for the assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father and then President of Bangladesh. On 28 January 2010, Rahman was hanged along with Syed Faruque Rahman, A.K.M. Mohiuddin Ahmed, Mohiuddin Ahmed, and Mohammad Bazlul Huda in Old Dhaka Central Jail.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Bangabandhu Memorial Museum</span> Museum in Dhaka, Bangladesh

Bangabandhu Memorial Museum, also known as Bangabandhu Bhaban or Dhanmondi 32, located in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, Bangladesh, was the personal residence of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who was also called Bangabandhu, the founding leader and president of Bangladesh. Mujib was assassinated with most members of his family in this residence. The museum was listed as a national heritage site in 2009 by RAJUK and was largely damaged in a mob violence in 2024.

The non-cooperation movement of 1971 was a historical movement in then East Pakistan by the Awami League and the general public against the military government of Pakistan in March of that year. After the announcement of the suspension of the session of the National Assembly of Pakistan on 1 March, the spontaneous movement of the people started, but officially on the call of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the non-cooperation movement started on 2 March and continued until 25 March. The movement lasted for a total of 25 days.
