Routes

The M17 begins at the intersection with the M4 (Ruth First Highway; Stalwart Simelane Street) in Stamford Hill. It initially heads west-northwest as Sandile Thusi Road, flying over the M12 (Masabalala Yengwa Avenue) and the rolling stock yard before intersecting with the R102 (Umgeni Road). It then passes through a small portion of Greyville for 200 metres before intersecting with Matthew Meyiwa Road and entering Windermere.

Shortly after intersecting with Florida Road, it forms the border between Windermere (north) and Essenwood (south). It then intersects the M8 (Problem Mkhize Road) and continues west-northwest. After the intersection with Currie Road, it becomes Springfield Road. Passing Musgrave Road, it continues as the border between Morningside (north) and Essenwood (south).

At Silver Palm Road, it turns northward, becoming Earl Haig Road through Morningside. It then turns left into Hebert Road, heading southwest before turning westward into Springfield, where it ends at the M10 (Alpine Road). [1]
