The official opening was on 14 May 1986. The complex was built to host the 5th World Aquatics Championships held in August 1986. The name of the swimming center is derived from this event (M-86: Madrid 1986). Its area is about 21,000 square meters.[ citation needed ]
The indoor pool of the M-86 Swimming Center has staged the following events:
LEN is the European governing body for aquatic sports affiliated to World Aquatics — it is the Continental Association for Europe. It was formally organized in 1927 in Bologna, and since 2015 is headquartered in Nyon.
The 2007 European Short Course Swimming Championships, which was the 15th edition of the continental swimming event, were held between 13–16 December 2007 in Debrecen, Hungary. The championships were swum in the Debrecen Swimming Pool Complex, in a short course (25-metre) pool.
The 1987 European Aquatics Championships, organized by the Ligue Européenne de Natation, were held in an indoor pool (50 m) in Strasbourg, France from 16 August to 23 August 1987. Besides swimming there were titles contested in diving, synchronized swimming (women) and water polo. For the first time the 50 m freestyle event was included in the tournament.

Felipe Perrone Rocha is a Spanish-Brazilian water polo player. He competed for Spain from 2003 until 2013, including in the 2008 Summer Olympics and 2012 Summer Olympics. Afterwards he competed for his birth country in the 2016 Summer Olympics, as Brazil earned its first qualifying spot in 32 years as hosts. He helped Spanish water polo club CN Atlètic-Barceloneta win the LEN Champions League in 2013–14 season. His brother Ricardo Perrone also competed for Spain in water polo.
Daniel López Pinedo is a Spanish water polo goalkeeper who competed for the Spain men's national water polo team in two Summer Olympics (2012 London and 2016 Rio. He helped Spanish water polo club CN Atlètic-Barceloneta win the LEN Champions League in 2013–14 season. He is 6 ft 3 inches tall.
Viktor Nagy is a Hungarian water polo goalkeeper. He took up the sport at the age of 10 at the Szolnoki Dózsa in Budapest, and made his first appearance for the Hungarian national team in 2006. He won the world title in 2013 and competed at the 2012, 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympics
The European Diving Championships are biennial diving competitions, organized by LEN. The meet features divers from Europe, competing in events on 1-meter and 3-meter springboards and on 10-meter platform. The meet has traditionally been held in June.
The Royal Belgian Swimming Federation is the umbrella swimming association in Belgium and is responsible for all types of swimming: swimming in lanes, water polo, synchronised swimming, diving and open water swimming. The federation has its registered office in Brussels. Michel Louwagie is the current president since 1998. The RBSF is affiliated with the Belgian Olympic Committee, the Ligue Européenne de Natation and the Federation Internationale de Natation. The Board of Directors and the General Assembly of the RBSF consist of representatives of the Flemish and Francophone swimming federations. The Belgian Swimming Federation is formally authorized to represent the Belgian swimming world and to deliver athletes and teams to international tournaments. The informal power and sport policy lie in fact with the regional swimming federations, which have the financial resources.
