MV Nottingham was a refrigerated cargo ship that was built in Scotland in 1949 for the Federal Steam Navigation Co and scrapped in Taiwan in 1971.

She was the second of two ships of this name in the Federal Steam fleet. The first Nottingham was a motor ship that was launched in 1941 and sunk with all hands by enemy action on her maiden voyage. [1]

History

John Brown & Company built Nottingham in Clydebank, Glasgow. She was launched on 22 December 1949 and completed in 1950. She was 463.5 ft (141.3 m) long, her beam was 61.7 ft (18.8 m) and her depth was 25.9 ft (7.9 m). She had a single screw, powered by a single-acting two-stroke diesel engine. [2]

Nottingham's usual trade was carrying fruit from New Zealand to the United Kingdom. [3] On 11 August 1971 she arrived in Kaohsiung in Taiwan to be scrapped. [2]

HMS Southern Prince was a motor ship that was built in 1929 as the refrigerated cargo ship Southern Prince. She was commissioned into the Royal Navy in 1940 as a minelayer. She became a headquarters ship and then an accommodation ship in 1944, was a fleet training ship in 1945, and returned to civilian trade in 1946. In 1947 she was sold to Italian owners who had her refitted as a passenger ship and renamed her Anna C. From 1952 she was a cruise ship. She was scrapped in 1972.

TSS<i> Wahine</i> Passenger steamship (1912-1951)

TSS Wahine was a Union Steamship Company passenger steamship that was launched in Scotland in 1912 and wrecked in the Arafura Sea in 1951. She spent most of her career on inter-island ferry route between Wellington and Lyttelton, New Zealand. She was a minelayer in World War I, and a troop ship in World War I, World War II and the Korean War.

PS Rouen was a passenger ferry that was built in Glasgow in 1888 for the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway (LB&SCR). In 1903 she was acquired by JP and RP Little for the Barrow Steam Navigation Company and renamed Duchess of Buccleuch. In 1907 she passed to the Midland Railway, and in 1909 she was scrapped.

PS <i>Duchess of Edinburgh</i> (1880)

The PS Duchess of Edinburgh was a passenger ferry that was built in Glasgow for the South Eastern Railway Company (SER) in 1880. In 1883 James Little & Co acquired her for the Barrow Steam Navigation Company and renamed her Manx Queen. She passed to the Midland Railway in 1907 and was scrapped that same year.

SS Ruahine was a UK-built ocean liner and refrigerated cargo ship. She was launched in 1909 in Scotland for the New Zealand Shipping Company, who operated her in scheduled service between Britain and New Zealand. She survived both World wars.

Emu, later Brightside, was an iron-hulled paddle steamer that was built in Scotland in 1864 for using in Australia. For her first few years, she worked on the Brisbane River and Moreton Bay. From 1868, she was a local ferry in Sydney Harbour. From 1902, she was a cargo ship. She was scrapped in Sydney in 1909.

SS Huntingdon was a refrigerated steam cargo liner that was built in Germany in 1920 as Münsterland. The United Kingdom took her as war reparations and sold her to the Federal Steam Navigation Company, who renamed her Huntingdon.
