Kitsap County is located in the U.S. state of Washington. As of the 2020 census, its population was 275,611. Its county seat is Port Orchard; its largest city is Bremerton. The county, formed out of King County and Jefferson County on January 16, 1857, is named for Chief Kitsap of the Suquamish Tribe. Originally named Slaughter County, it was soon renamed.

Wolfe Islander III is the ferry currently serving between Kingston, Ontario and Wolfe Island. She can hold approximately 55 cars, and is end-loading. The length of the car deck is 61 metres (200 feet). The vehicle height restriction is 4.4 m. As it is the only public access to Wolfe Island, the vessel operates as a free ferry. Crossing time is approximately 20 minutes. She was launched into service on 5 February 1976 by then Ontario Minister of Transportation, James W. Snow.

King's Highway 95, commonly referred to as Highway 95, was a provincially maintained highway in the Canadian province of Ontario on Wolfe Island. Together with Highway 96, the routes were the only King's Highways not connected to the rest of the network by a fixed link. At its southern end, the 11.4-kilometre (7.1 mi) route connected to New York State Route 12E via the private and seasonal Horne's Ferry. At its northern end, it connected with Highway 96 in Marysville a short distance west of the MV Wolfe Islander III ferry to Kingston. Today it is under the jurisdiction of Frontenac Islands Township, as Frontenac County does not have a county road system.

Due to its unique geography, being made of two peninsulas surrounded by the Great Lakes, Michigan has depended on many ferries for connections to transport people, vehicles and trade. The most famous modern ferries are those which carry people and goods across the Straits of Mackinac to the car-free Mackinac Island but before the Mackinac Bridge was built, large numbers of ferries carried people and cars between the two peninsulas. Other ferries continue to provide transportation to small islands and across the Detroit River to Canada. Ferries once provided transport to island parks for city dwellers. The state's only national park, Isle Royale cannot be reached by road and is normally accessed by ferry. The largest ferries in Michigan are the car ferries which cross Lake Michigan to Wisconsin. One of these, the SS Badger is one of the last remaining coal steamers on the Great Lakes and serves as a section of US Highway 10 (US 10). The Badger is also the largest ferry in Michigan, capable of carrying 600 passengers and 180 autos.
The Amherst Islander II is a zero emission ferry boat which will serve Amherst Island from Millhaven, Ontario in Lake Ontario, Canada, thus replacing the MV Frontenac II built in 1962. The Amherst Islander II was constructed with another ferry, the MV Wolfe Islander IV, using the same zero emission technology and which will serve between Kingston, Ontario and Wolfe Island.
The Wolfe Islander IV is a zero emission ferry boat which will serve between Kingston, Ontario and Wolfe Island, thus replacing the MV Wolfe Islander III. The MV Wolfe Islander IV was constructed with another ferry, the Amherst Islander II, using the same zero emission technology and which will serve between Amherst Island and Millhaven, Ontario.
