The Machilipatnam Urban Development Authority (MUDA) is a special urban planning authority.^[1] It was constituted on 1 February 2016, under Andhra Pradesh Urban Areas (Development) Act 1975. The headquarters are located at Machilipatnam in the Krishna district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.^[2]

It is closely related to the field of urban design and some urban planners provide designs for streets, parks, buildings and other urban areas. Urban planning is also referred to as urban and regional planning, regional planning, town planning, city planning, rural planning, urban development or some combination in various areas worldwide.

Machilipatnam, also known as Masulipatnam and Bandar, is a town in Krishna district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is a municipal corporation and the administrative headquarters of Krishna district. It is also the mandal headquarters of Machilipatnam mandal in Machilipatnam revenue division of the district. The ancient port town served as the settlement of European traders from the 16th century, and it was a major trading port for the British, Dutch and French in the seventeenth century.

Krishna district is an administrative district in the Coastal Andhra region of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. Machilipatnam is the administrative headquarters and Vijayawada is the most populated city in the district. It has an area of 8,727 km² (3,370 sq mi) and had a population of 45,29,009 as per 2011 census of India. It is bounded by West Godavari on the east, Bay of Bengal on the South, Guntur and Suryapet districts in the west and a portion of it also borders with the state of Telangana. Krishna District is formed from District of Rajahmundry in 1859, Guntur district was separated from Krishna in 1904 to form Krishna district which was further divided in 1925, to Krishna and West Godavari districts.Krishna district is the most developed district in Andhra Pradesh.

Jurisdiction

The MUDA covers a jurisdictional area of 426.16 km² (164.54 sq mi) which includes, Machilipatnam Municipal Corporation, 27 villages from Machilipatnam mandal and a lone village from Pedana mandal.^[2]

Machilipatnam Municipal Corporation is the civic body that governs the city of Machilipatnam in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. Machilipatnam was upgraded to corporation, but it continues to be a municipality till the expiry of its present elected council.

Machilipatnam mandal is one of the 50 mandals in Krishna district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is under the administration of Machilipatnam revenue division and the headquarters are located at Machilipatnam town. The mandal is bounded by Bantumilli, Pedana, Gudur, Ghantasala, Challapalli and Koduru mandals.

Pedana mandal is one of the 50 mandals in Krishna district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is under the administration of Machilipatnam revenue division and the headquarters are located at Pedana. The mandal is bounded by Gudlavalleru, Mudinepalle, Bantumilli, Gudur and Machilipatnam mandals.
