Madhav R. Bir (Madhav Ramkrishna Bir) was a Goa liberation activist and a politician from Goa. He was a member of Goa Legislative Assembly from Panaji. [1] Bir was married to Mitra Bir.

Madhav Gadgil Indian ecologist

Madhav Dhananjaya Gadgil is an Indian ecologist, academic, writer, columnist and the founder of the Centre for Ecological Sciences, a research forum under the aegis of the Indian Institute of Science. He is a former member of the Scientific Advisory Council to the Prime Minister of India and the Head of the Western Ghats Ecology Expert Panel (WGEEP) of 2010, popularly known as the Gadgil Commission. He is a recipient of the Volvo Environment Prize and the Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian award of the Padma Shri in 1981 and followed it up with the third highest award of the Padma Bhushan in 2006.

Mitra Bir

Mitra Bir was a freedom fighter and educationist from Goa, who was sentenced to twelve years in jail at the age of 22 when the region was a Portuguese colony. She later opened schools for girls at Margao, Verem, Kakora and other locations in Goa, as well as centres for adult and vocational education for women. She was married to the late Madhav R. Bir, a former member of the Goa assembly and Gandhian.

Nee Sneham is a 2002 Indian Telugu-language romance drama film directed by Paruchuri Murali and produced by Siddhanta Mahapatra. The film stars Uday Kiran, Aarti Agarwal and Siddhant Mohapatra. The film was a hit and well received by family audiences. The screenplay and music tracks of the movie are highlights and stood for the movie's success. The music given by R. P. Patnaik was critical for the movie. Uday Kiran was nominated for the second time for the Best Actor Award at filmfare for his excellent natural and emotional performance. It was remade in Odia as Mu tote Love karuchi (2007) and in Bengali as Premi (2004).

Goa Konkani Akademi

The Goa Konkani Akademi is an organization set up by the Government of Goa in 1986 to promote the Konkani in Goa. Its stated aim is to accelerate the pace of development of Konkani by encouraging writers, researchers, etc. and to bring Konkanis from all areas together.

Madhav Manjunath Shanbhag was an Indian lawyer and activist on behalf of the Konkani-speaking people. He was born in Karwar, in the state of Karnataka. With a few like-minded companions he travelled in all the Konkani-speaking areas, seeking to unite the fragmented Konkani community under the banner of 'one language, one script, one literature'. He succeeded in organizing the first Adhiveshan of All India Konkani Parishad in Karwar in 1939.

Western Ghats Ecology Expert Panel Indian environmental research commission

The Western Ghats Ecology Expert Panel (WGEEP), also known as the Gadgil Commission after its chairman Madhav Gadgil, was an environmental research commission appointed by the Ministry of Environment and Forests of India. The commission submitted the report to the Government of India on 31 August 2011. The Expert Panel approached the project through a set of tasks, such as:

  1. Compilation of readily available information about Western Ghats
  2. Development of Geo-spatial database based on environmental sensitivity, and
  3. Consultation with Government bodies and Civil society groups.

2017 Rajya Sabha elections

He is a two-term member of the Goa Legislative Assembly representing the Priol constituency. He is president of MGP and has played key role in keeping the party alive in Goan politics. He was Minister in Goa Government for the period 2012–2016.
