Patiala is a city in southeastern Punjab, northwestern India. It is the fourth largest city in the state and is the administrative capital of Patiala district. Patiala is located around the Qila Mubarak constructed by the Sidhu Jat chieftain Ala Singh, who founded the royal dynasty of Patiala State in 1763, and after whom the city is named.
Ranjit Singh, popularly known as Sher-e-Punjab or "Lion of Punjab", was the first Maharaja of the Sikh Empire, which ruled the northwest Indian subcontinent in the early half of the 19th century. He survived smallpox in infancy but lost sight in his left eye. He fought his first battle alongside his father at age 10. After his father died, he fought several wars to expel the Afghans in his teenage years and was proclaimed as the "Maharaja of Punjab" at age 21. His empire grew in the Punjab region under his leadership through 1839.
Guru Nanak Dev University (G.N.D.U.) was established at Amritsar, Punjab, India on 24 November 1969 to commemorate Guru Nanak Dev's birth quincentenary. The university is Entitled by University Grants Commission for offering higher studies degree courses online. Guru Nanak Dev University's campus is spread over 500 acres (200 ha) near village of Kot Khalsa, nearly eight km (5.0 mi) west of the Amritsar, next to Khalsa College, Amritsar. G.N.D.U. is both a residential and an affiliating university. In conceiving its future course, the objectives enshrined in the Act 1969 emphasized that the new university would make provision for imparting education and promoting research in the humanities, learned professions, sciences, especially of applied nature and technology. Studies and research on the life and teachings of Guru Nanak, in addition to working towards the promotion of Punjabi language and spreading education among educationally backward classes and communities were the other commitments.
Khalsa College is a historic educational institution in the northern Indian city of Amritsar in the state of Punjab, India. Founded in 1892, the sprawling 300-acre (1.2 km2) campus is located about eight kilometers from the city-center on the Amritsar-Lahore highway, adjoining Guru Nanak Dev University campus, to which Khalsa College is academically affiliated.

Doaba also known as Bist Doab, is the region of Punjab, India that lies between the Beas River and the Sutlej River. A famous battle was fought here between Sikhs and Mughals i.e Battle of Rahon (1710).

Randhir Singh is a sports administrator and former Olympic-level trap and skeet shooter. Singh is one of India's most influential sports administrators and is noted for his wide-ranging international connections. He is a 1979 recipient of the Arjuna Award. He is the current Acting President of Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) beginning 11 September 2021, following the ruling against former President Sheikh Ahmad Al Fahad Al Sabah. He was also the Secretary General of the Olympic Council of Asia since 1991-2015. Singh was the representative for India on the International Olympic Committee (IOC) from 2001-2014, and since 2014, he has been an honorary member of the IOC.
Pul Kanjri is a historical site situated 35 km away from Amritsar on Amritsar-Lahore road, near the villages of Dhanoa Khurd and Dhanoa Kalan on the Wagah border. It is one of the heritage sites built by Maharaja Ranjit Singh, where he used to rest while travelling with his troops. During his reign, Pul Kanjari was an important trading centre. The legend has it when Maharaja Ranjit Singh married Begum Gul Bahar, on their way to Lahore they had to cross this canal on Ravi river. People used to cross the canal by foot but Begum Gul Bahar refused to do so. Since Maharaja Ranjit Singh was deeply in love with Begum Gul Bahar, he had a small bridge built for her. Some part of the bridge still exists. It was named Pul Kanjri. It was greatly in news during 1971 war. This fortress also contains a bathing pool, a temple, a Gurudwara and a mosque.
Ruchi Trikha is an Indian epée fencing player. In July 2017, she was noted as the top women fencer in the Punjab region of India. Trikha competed at the Asian Games 2006. She was the first Indian to win two bronze medals at the Commonwealth Fencing Championship in 2006. Trikha won an individual gold medal and team gold medal at the 12th Thailand Open Asian Fencing Championship. She was coached by Arun Kumar Vij, secretary-general of the Fencing Association of India.
Saini Sisters is a popular epithet used for four sisters from Punjab who were international field hockey players, Rupa Saini, Krishna Saini, Swarna Saini and Prema Saini. At one time Saini sisters dominated woman's hockey in India and in the test series against Japan in 1970 all three sisters played together for India.

Sushil Kohli is an Indian swimmer and water polo player. He was born on 19 April 1953. His father was the late Sh Mulkh Raj Kohli, who started the company Beat All Sports commonly known as BAS. He received a bronze medal at the 1982 Asian Games in New Delhi.
Moran Sarkar was a Punjabi Muslim who is said to have married Sandhawalia Jat sikh ruler Maharaja Ranjit Singh of Punjab in 1806. She was a nautch girl before she became a queen. Maharaja Singh was supposedly punished by flogging by Akali Phula Singh for marrying her. Mai Moran was sent to live in Pathankot district, in 1811.
Lieutenant General Kamal Jit Singh, PVSM, AVSM & Bar is a retired Indian Army officer and former general officer commanding-in-chief of Western Command. After retirement, he was conferred with Maharaja Ranjit Singh Chair of Excellence in Punjab University. and was appointed as Advisor to CM Haryana in November 2018. He graduated from the National Defence Academy, and attended various staff courses in training academies of the Indian Army throughout the country. Singh worked closely with UN Peacekeeping forces stationed in Angola and was commended by the chief and UN Force Commander during his tenure. He held several appointments as commanding officer and also staff appointments at the headquarters of the Indian Army. He has been twice awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal. Kunwar Singh Negi was an Indian braille editor and social worker. He has transliterated 300 books into braille. His major works include Bhagwan Buddh Ka Updesh and Hazrat Mohammed Ki Vani, both being about teachings of Gautam Buddha and Muhammad. He was presented with Indian civilian awards Padma Shri in 1981 and later with Padma Bhushan in 1990.
Smit Singh is a State Public Policy Advisor, Strategic Communications Expert, International Sportsperson and was Indian National Congress MLA candidate for Punjab Vidhan Sabha General Elections 2022. Singh studied at Somerville College, University of Oxford. Earlier, he held the position of Head Corporate Sports with ONGC at Delhi. He was also General Secretary of All India Public Sector Sports Promotion Board (AIPSSPB), He has been awarded with the Eklavya Award by the Government of Gujarat in 1996 and Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award by the Government of Punjab in 2006 for his achievements in sports.
Kunwar Rattan Singh (1805–1845) was the second son of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the founder of the Sikh Empire and his queen consort, Maharani Datar Kaur. His elder, Maharaja Kharak Singh was the second Maharaja of the Sikh Empire and nephew, Maharaja Nau Nihal Singh was the third Maharaja.
