Maharaja Umaid Singh Stadium, formerly known as the Umaid Sports Stadium, is a multipurpose stadium situated in the Paota suburb of Jodhpur, Rajasthan.The sports complex is built in 1932 headed by Maharaja of Jodhpur Umaid Singh as a sports ground. It is mostly used for political rallies, cultural activities and sporting events. [1]

History

Maharaja Umaid Singh Stadium was built by that time Maharaja Umaid Singh in 1932 as a sports ground. It is the oldest stadium in the city of Jodhpur.

Rajasthan Government announced 2 crore budget to renovate the stadium and make a shooting range. Currently a state level association football academy is running the stadium. [2]

A football club from Jaipur, AU Rajasthan FC borrowed the stadium for their I-League 2nd division matches. [3] Now it is owned by Govt of Rajasthan which uses it for various purposes. [4] [5]

Parvati Gehlot was the first female physician from Rajasthan in India. She belongs to Jodhpur city of Rajasthan. She passed her MBBS degree in 1928 from Lady Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi and then went abroad in 1936 to England for higher studies in the field of medicine. She was very talented and later joined the government service. She then became the Superintendent of Umaid Hospital, Jodhpur.

Sardar Samand, is a lake formed by dam built across the Sukri river and Guhiya Nala, which are tributaries of Luni River. It was built with the cost of around 8 Lakhs rupees and was named after the Maharaja of Kingdom of Marwar, Sardar Singh. Its construction started in 1899 and completed in 1905–06. It is situated in Pali district of Rajasthan.
