National Institute of Technology Calicut, formerly Regional Engineering College Calicut, is a public technical university and an institute of national importance governed by the NIT Act passed by the Parliament of India. The campus is situated 22 kilometres (14 mi) northeast of Kozhikode, on the Kozhikode–Mukkam Road. It was established in 1961 and was known as Calicut Regional Engineering College (CREC) until 2002. It is one of the National Institutes of Technology campuses established by the Government of India to impart high standard technical education to students from all over the country. NIT Calicut hosts a supercomputer on its campus, and has a dedicated nanotechnology department.
The Thangal Kunju Musaliar College of Engineering, commonly known as TKMCE, is the first government-aided engineering institution in the Indian state of Kerala, with foundation stone laid on 2nd February 1956, and inaugurated on 3 July 1958. The campus is located in Karicode, approximately 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) away from Kollam, Kerala, India. The college was affiliated to Kerala University before getting changed to APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University when it was formed in 2015. Lakshadweep is a union territory of India. Mohammed Faizal Padippura is an Indian politician and social worker and Ex Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha from Union Territory of Lakshadweep. He was elected as the party whip of the Nationalist Congress Party in the 16th Lok Sabha. In January 2023, Faizal and four others were sentenced to 10 years in jail in a case of attempt to murder. After this verdict, Mohammad Faizal was disqualified from Lok Sabha and on 29 March 2023 his membership was restored. The Ethics Committee of Lok Sabha took this decision. On 25 January, The High court of Kerala suspended the judgement of Kavaratti court against him. On January 30, The Election Commission of India deferred by-election for Parliamentary constituency in Lakshadweep after Kerala High Court passed an order on January 25 suspending the conviction. He was lost in Lakshadweep lok sabha constituency in 2024 election.
