Mahbob-U-lah Koshani is a citizen of Afghanistan who was a candidate in Afghanistan's 2009 Presidential elections. [1]

Academic career

Koshani graduated from Habibia high school, and subsequently earned a master's degree from Moscow University, in economics. [1]

Political career

Koshani was a member of Afghanistan's Revolutionary Labor Union, served on its executive committee, and eventually became the head of the union. [1]

The Revolutionary Labor Union merged with other political parties in 2007, to form the Afghanistan Liberal Party. [1] Koshani became the deputy head of the new party.

During the 2009 Presidential elections he stood 13th in a field of 38. [2] He won 5,572 votes.

2009 Indonesian presidential election

Presidential elections were held in Indonesia on 8 July 2009. The elections returned a president and vice president for the 2009–2014 term. Incumbent President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, elected with a 20% margin in the 2004 election, sought a second term against former President Megawati Sukarnoputri in a rematch of the 2004 election, as well as incumbent Vice President Jusuf Kalla. Securing a majority of the votes in a landslide victory in the first round, Yudhoyono was re-elected without the need to proceed to a second round, scheduled to be held on 8 September if no candidate received a majority of the popular vote. Yudhoyono was officially declared the victor of the election on 23 July 2009, by the General Election Commission (KPU). At the time of his re-election victory, Yudhoyono, with nearly 74 million votes in his favour, held the record for the highest number of votes for a single person in any democratic election in history. His record was surpassed by his successor Joko Widodo who won 85 million votes in 2019.

After a career with international non-governmental organizations including the United Nations Development Program in Geneva, Daudzai started work as two term Chief of Staff of Afghan President Hamid Karzai from 2003 to 2005 and then from 2007 to around 2010. From 2005 until 2007, President Karzai appointed him as Afghan Ambassador in Iran. He then served as the Afghan Ambassador to Pakistan, tasked with advancing efforts to reach a political solution to the war in Afghanistan. In September 2013, Daudzai was asked to serve as Afghan Minister of Interior in Kabul and ensure security for the challenging 2014 presidential elections.
