Maher Atta is a retired soccer defender who played professionally in the USISL A-League and National Professional Soccer League.
Atta attended Catawba College where he played on the men’s soccer team from 1989 to 1992. He was a 1992 NAIA Third Team All American. [1] Atta graduated with a bachelor's degree in health and physical fitness. In 1993, Atta turned professional with the Carolina Dynamo of the USISL. He played for the Dynamo until 1997, winning the 1993 and 1994 USISL outdoor titles with them. In November 1997, Atta signed with the Cleveland Crunch of the National Professional Soccer League, but played only one game that season. In 1998, Atta was invited to the Major League Soccer combine, after spending a summer with the Tampa Mutiny playing exhibition games in Miami, Columbia and Peru. Maher was not drafted, However, he signed with the Jacksonville Cyclones. Maher played over 130 games for the Dynamo. That year, he also began working for TEKsystems where he has been for the last 22 years. In 1999, Atta rejoined the Dynamo for two seasons. In 2002, he returned for one more season with Carolina. In 2006, the Dynamo inducted Atta into the team’s Hall of Fame. In 2019, Catawba College where Maher played college soccer inducted him into their Hall of Fame. In January 2021, North Carolina Soccer Hall Fame inducted Maher's pro team, Greensboro Dynamo into their National Champions Hall of Honor. [2]
Desmond Kevin Armstrong is an American former soccer defender and midfielder, who was a member of the United States national team from 1987 to 1994. He played three seasons in the Major Indoor Soccer League, part of one in the Brazilian First Division, two in the American Professional Soccer League and two in USISL.

Derek Backman is a retired U.S. soccer midfielder who played in the USISL. Backman played for the Arcadia Shepherds in his native South Africa before moving to the United States in 1983 to attend the College of Boca Raton. In 1987, Backman and his teammates won the NAIA national men's soccer championship. Backman was also a two time first team NAIA All American. He graduated in 1989 and was inducted into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004. In 1988, Backman signed with the Tampa Bay Rowdies as it prepared to enter the newly established American Soccer League. He moved to the Fort Lauderdale Strikers for the first part of the 1989 season before returning to the Rowdies for the end of the season. He then remained a regular with the team until sidelined in 1993 with a stress fracture in his left ankle. In 1990, the Rowdies moved to the American Professional Soccer League and folded at the end of the 1993 season. Backman remained in the Tampa area, coaching youth soccer and working in his family's interior design business. He also played with the amateur St. Petersburg Kickers. In 1995, Backman gained his U.S. citizenship. That year, he played for the expansion Tampa Bay Cyclones in the USISL. In February 1996, the Tampa Bay Mutiny selected Backman in the 11th round of the 1996 MLS Inaugural Player Draft. He played 25 games with the Mutiny in 1996, but only three in 1997. He retired in 1998. He currently plays for the amateur team Kaknballz FC, who won the state title in 2017.

He has also coached professionally and is the former head coach of the Neumann College men's soccer team.
