Mahmudur Rahman Benu (born 1942/1943) [1] is a Bangladeshi musician and organizer. He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2022 for his contribution to music. [2]

Career

Benu was an apprentice of Waheedul Haq. [3] He was a professor of statistics at Institute of Statistical Research and Training (ISRT) and a music teacher at Chhayanaut. [4]

Benu led his musician team, Mukti Sangrami Shilpi Sangstha, during the 1971 Liberation War. [4]

Benu lived in Leeds for his PhD and later in Sheffield during 1973–1993 until he moved London. [1] [4]

The award is given to recognize contributions in a number of fields, including culture, education, and economics. The Ministry of Cultural Affairs administers the award.

He was conferred the Ekushey Padak from the Government of Bangladesh in 2018 and the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 12th Channel i Music Awards (2017) for his contribution to Bangladeshi film music. He also received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Gaan e Gaan e Gunijon Shongbordhona, by Citibank NA in 2019.

Rawshan Ara Mustafiz is a Bangladeshi singer of Nazrul Sangeet genre. She was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2006 by the Government of Bangladesh.

Indra Mohan Rajbongshi was a Bangladeshi folk singer. He was the recipient of 2018 Ekushey Padak by the Government of Bangladesh.

Liaquat Ali Lucky is a Bangladeshi actor, director, singer, composer and cultural organiser. He served as director general of Shilpakala Academy from April 2011 to August 2024. He was awarded Ekushey Padak by the Government of Bangladesh in 2019. As of 2018, he has acted in 58 theatre plays and directed 82 plays.
