Kannada cinema Kannada language film industry

Kannada cinema, also known as Sandalwood or Chandanavana, is an Indian film industry of Kannada-language motion pictures. It is based in Bangalore, Karnataka, India. The 1934 film Sati Sulochana directed by Y. V. Rao was the first talkie film in the Kannada language. It was also the first film starring Subbaiah Naidu and Tripuramba, and was the first motion picture screened in the erstwhile Mysore Kingdom. Antonio Mercero

Antonio Mercero Juldain was a Spanish director of the television series Verano azul and Farmacia de guardia. He is best known as the director of a 1972 surrealist short horror film titled La cabina, which won an Emmy Award. His 1998 film A Time for Defiance was entered into the 21st Moscow International Film Festival where it won the Special Silver St. George. In 2010, he was awarded an Honorary Goya Award. He died on 12 May 2018 in Madrid at the age of 82 after a battle against Alzheimer's.

Mrinal Sen Indian film director

Mrinal Sen was an Indian film director of Bengali heritage and a nominated Member of the Indian parliament. Sen directed films primarily in Bengali and Hindi. Along with contemporaries Ritwik Ghatak, Tapan Sinha and Satyajit Ray, he pioneered the New Wave cinema in India. He has received multiple awards, including 18 National Film Awards. The Government of India has awarded him the Padma Bhushan, and the Government of France has awarded him the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, while Russian Government awarded him Order of Friendship. Sen was also awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. He was the only Indian filmmaker along with Satyajit Ray whose films have been awarded at the big three film festivals namely the Cannes Film Festival, Venice Film Festival and the Berlin Film Festival. Sen was a self described "private Marxist".

Cinema of Colombia Filmmaking in Colombia

Cinema of Colombia refers to the film industry based in Colombia. Colombian cinema began in 1897 and has included silent films, animated films and internationally acclaimed films. Government support included an effort in the 1970s to develop the state-owned Cinematographic Development Company which helped produce some films yet struggled to maintain itself financially viable. FOCINE became defunct in 1993. In 1997 the Colombian congress approved Law 397 of Article 46 or the General Law of Culture with the purpose of supporting the development of the Colombian film industry by creating a film promotion mixed fund called Corporación PROIMAGENES en Movimiento. In 2003 Congress also approved the Law of Cinema which helped to restart the cinematographic industry in Colombia.

Juan Antonio Bardem Spanish film director and screenwriter

Juan Antonio Bardem Muñoz was a Spanish film director and screen writer, born in Madrid. He was a member of the Communist Party. Bardem was best known for Muerte de un ciclista (1955) which won the FIPRESCI Prize at the 1955 Cannes Film Festival, and El puente (1977) which won the Golden Prize at the 10th Moscow International Film Festival. His 1979 film Seven Days in January won the Golden Prize at the 11th Moscow International Film Festival. In 1981 he was a member of the jury at the 12th Moscow International Film Festival. In 1993 he was a member of the jury at the 43rd Berlin International Film Festival. In 1953 he and Luis García Berlanga founded a film magazine, Objetivo, which existed until 1956. Bardem is the father of director Miguel Bardem and uncle of actor Javier Bardem. Bardem died in Madrid in 2002, at age 80.

His 1983 film The Bicycle Racer was entered into the 13th Moscow International Film Festival. His 2001 film, The Invisible Children, was selected as the Colombian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 75th Academy Awards, but it was not nominated.
