Malvan region refers to some talukas of the Ratnagiri district and Sindhudurg district in Maharashtra, on the western coast of India. Earlier it was a part of the Ratnagiri district which was bifurcated into the Sindhudurg district on 1 May 1981, for administrative convenience and industrial and agricultural development. [1] Hence, the culture in both the districts are likewise the same. It is known as the Malvan region due to the presence of the Malvani language which is spoken by the locals known as Malvani people in the region. In the bordering areas of Goa and Karnataka, this region is known as Malnad.

Generally this dish is available throughout the year especially in the coastal area of Maharashtra including Mumbai.

Malvani is a dialect of Konkani with significant Marathi influences and loanwords. Though Malvani does not have a unique script, scripts of the other languages native to the regions its speakers inhabit are used. Devanagari is used by most of the speakers. Malvani is very popular language used for newspaper articles and dramas.

Malvani cuisine is the standard cuisine of the South Konkan region of Maharashtra and Goa. Although Malvani cuisine is predominantly non-vegetarian, there are many vegetarian dishes. Although it is an independent cuisine, it overlaps Maharashtrian cuisine and Goan cuisine. Malvan is a town in the Sindhudurg district on the west coast of Maharashtra.

Sindhudurg Airport is an airport at Chipi-Parule in Sindhudurg district, in the State of Maharashtra, India. It is located 27 kilometres from the Mumbai - Goa highway, 12 kilometres from Malvan close to the sea shore. Construction was completed by the second half of 2018 and a familiarisation flight from Mumbai Airport landed on 12 September 2018 on occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi. The airport was formally inaugurated on 5 March 2019. Alliance Air, an Air India subsidiary has secured permissions to operate flights from Mumbai. Commercial flights are expected to start soon.

Vijaydurg Port Port of Maharastra, India

Vijaydurg Port is a natural harbour on the west coast of the district of Sindhudurg in Maharashtra, India. The port is situated midway between Malvan and Ratnagiri at the mouth of the Vijaydurg creek in Devgad taluka. Its coastal jurisdiction extends 10 km north up to the Jaitapur lighthouse. Goods weighing about 200 tons are generally loaded or unloaded at the port daily. The cargo brought by sea is transported by creek up to Kharepatan which is 26 miles up from Vijayadurg.

Nivati Fort is a fort located 10 km south of Malvan in Sindhudurg district, of Maharashtra. This fort is located on the hill near the Nivati village. The fort is spread over an area of 4-5 acres and covered with dense bushes.
