Mamadou Seck is a Senegalese politician who was President of the National Assembly of Senegal from 2008 to 2012. [1] He was briefly Minister of Finance and Economy in 2001,and he was Minister of Infrastructure,Equipment and Transport from 2002 to 2006. He has also served as Mayor of Mbao. [2]
Seck was Director-General of the Handling and Shipping Company (Sociétéde manutention et de transit,Somicoa) in the 1980s. In connection with a case regarding the diversion of proceeds from the sale of food aid,Seck was given a two-year suspended sentence in 1988. Seck denied wrongdoing. [2] [3]
In the government of Prime Minister Mame Madior Boye,appointed on 12 May 2001,Seck was included as Minister of Finance and Economy. However,his appointment caused attention to be focused on his conviction in the late 1980s, [2] and as a result he promptly resigned from the government on 23 May 2001. According to Seck,he felt this was necessary due to the nature of the allegations and the doubts some had regarding his moral integrity. [2] [3] He was subsequently cleared of wrongdoing by the Court of Appeal in Dakar. [2]
Seck was later appointed to the government as Minister of Infrastructure,Equipment and Transport on 6 November 2002. [4] He held that post until 1 February 2006, [3] when Habib Sy was appointed to replace him. In the June 2007 parliamentary election,Seck was elected to the National Assembly [2] on a departmental list of the Sopi Coalition. [5] He then became the President of the National Assembly's Finance,General Economy,Planning,and Cooperation Committee. [2]
After Macky Sall,the President of the National Assembly,was removed from his position,Seck was elected as President of the National Assembly on 16 November 2008. [6] [7] There were 130 votes in favor of Seck and three against him. [6]
Abdoulaye Wade is a Senegalese politician who was President of Senegal from 2000 to 2012. He is also the Secretary-General of the Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS),having led the party since it was founded in 1974. A long-time opposition leader,he ran for President four times,beginning in 1978,before he was elected in 2000. He won re-election in 2007 with a majority in the first round,but in 2012 he was defeated in a controversial bid for a third term.
Macky Sall is a Senegalese politician who has been President of Senegal since April 2012. He was re-elected President in the first round voting in February 2019 Senegalese presidential election. Under President Abdoulaye Wade,Sall was Prime Minister of Senegal from July 2004 to June 2007 and President of the National Assembly from June 2007 to November 2008. He was the Mayor of Fatick from 2002 to 2008 and held that post again from 2009 to 2012.
Moustapha Niasse is a Senegalese politician and diplomat who has been President of the National Assembly since 2012. He served in the government of Senegal as Foreign Minister of Senegal from 1978 to 1984 and again from 1993 to 1998. He was Prime Minister of Senegal for a few weeks in 1983,and he held that position again from 2000 to 2001.
