The Management Position Description Questionnaire (MPDQ) is a questionnaire used in human resource management for the purpose of analysing management positions. It allows HR departments to establish training requirements, salary bands and job groupings for new posts. [1] It has 208 items grouped in 13 categories. [2] [3] These categories also include 197 performance elements. [4] [5] Due to its narrative format, the MPDQ generally requires some degree of training before it can be properly used. [6] The questionnaire was created by Walter W. Tornow and Patrick R. Pinto in 1976. [7] [8]

It is designed to maximize employee performance in service of an employer's strategic objectives. Human resource management is primarily concerned with the management of people within organizations, focusing on policies and systems. HR departments are responsible for overseeing employee-benefits design, employee recruitment, training and development, performance appraisal, and reward management, such as managing pay and employee benefits systems. A chief human resources officer (CHRO) or chief people officer (CPO) is a corporate officer who oversees all aspects of human resource management and industrial relations policies, practices and operations for an organization. Training and development have historically been topics within adult education and applied psychology but have within the last two decades become closely associated with human resources management, talent management, human resources development, instructional design, human factors, and knowledge management.

The PAQ was developed at Purdue University by McCormick, E.J., & Jeanneret, and Mecham in 1969. The PAQ method involves a series of detailed questioning to produce many analysis reports. This method is widely used within industrial and organizational psychology, individual psychological assessment and human resource departments, and can be easily administered by any individual trained in job analysis.

A human resources management system (HRMS) (also human resources information system (HRIS) or human capital management (HCM) system) is a form of human resources (HR) software that combines a number of systems and processes to ensure the easy management of human resources, business processes and data. Human resources software is used by businesses to combine a number of necessary HR functions, such as storing employee data, managing payroll, recruitment, benefits administration (total rewards), time and attendance, employee performance management, and tracking competency and training records.

The Human Resources University was an learning and development platform created as part of the United States Office of Personnel Management which serves as the national focal point for the development and delivery of human resources training to enhance the capabilities of the Federal workforce. HRU provided services to Federal human resources contractor personnel as well. Since inception HRU had more than 50,000 registered students from across the Federal government. In April 2014 HRU received recognition for saving the Federal government over $100 million in cost savings in training costs.

He was the co-founder and first President of the World Institute of Action Learning (WIAL), a leading organization for certifying action learning coaches.
