Manbuk is a town in western Ethiopia. Located in the Metekel Zone of the Benishangul-Gumuz Region, Manbuk has a latitude and longitude of 11°17′N36°13′E / 11.283°N 36.217°E / 11.283; 36.217 . The city is located near the southern foot of Mount Belaya, at an elevation of 1200 meters. It is the administrative center of Dangur, and the largest settlement in that woreda.

Ethiopia country in East Africa

Ethiopia, officially the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, is a country in the northeastern part of Africa, popularly known as the Horn of Africa. It shares borders with Eritrea to the north, Djibouti to the northeast, and Somalia to the east, Sudan to the northwest, South Sudan to the west, and Kenya to the south. With over 102 million inhabitants, Ethiopia is the most populous landlocked country in the world and the second-most populous nation on the African continent that covers a total area of 1,100,000 square kilometres (420,000 sq mi). Metekel Zone zone of Ethiopia

Metekel is one of the three Zones in the Benishangul-Gumuz Region of Ethiopia, named after the former Metekkel province. It is bordered on the south and southwest by Kamashi, on the west by Sudan, and on the north and east by the Amhara Region. The Abay River defines the Zone's boundaries with Kamashi, while the Dinder River defines part of its boundary with the Amhara Region.

Benishangul-Gumuz Region Ethiopia

Benishangul-Gumuz, also known as Benshangul/Gumuz, is one of the nine ethnic divisions (kililoch) of Ethiopia. It was previously known as Region 6. The region's capital is Assosa. Following the adoption of the 1995 constitution, the Region was created from the westernmost portion of the Gojjam province, and the northwestern portion of the Welega Province. The name of the region comes from two local ethnic groups – Berta and Gumuz.

G.E.D. Allen passed through this town in 1941, which is opposite a gap in the Western Escarpment of the Ethiopian Highlands. [1]

Ethiopian Highlands mountain range

The Ethiopian Highlands is a rugged mass of mountains in Ethiopia, situated in the Horn region in northeast Africa. It forms the largest continuous area of its elevation in the continent, with little of its surface falling below 1,500 m (4,900 ft), while the summits reach heights of up to 4,550 m (14,930 ft). It is sometimes called the Roof of Africa due to its height and large area. Most of the Ethiopian Highlands are part of central and northern Ethiopia, and its northernmost portion reaches into Eritrea.

Based on figures from the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, this town has an estimated total population of 5,596, of whom 2,528 are men and 3,068 are women. [2] According to the 1994 national census, its total population was 3,253, of whom 1463 were men and 1790 were women.

Part of the Administrative Zone 5, Simurobi Gele'alo is located near the base of the eastern escarpment of the Ethiopian highlands, and bordered on the west by the Amhara Region, on the north by Hadele Ele, and on the east and south by the Administrative Zone 3; the Awash River defines a part of the southern end of the eastern boundary of this woreda with Administrative Zone 3. The major settlement in this woreda is Kumame.
