Mangaliso Ngema, is a South African actor best known for his roles in the popular serials Vehicle 19 , Mary and Martha and Lithapo.[ citation needed ]

Personal life

He was born and raised in Orlando West, Soweto, South Africa.

He was married to a Mozambique woman and is a father of one daughter. However, his baby was sold by the nurse who was working in that hospital. Later his wife also divorced him. [1]

Career

He moved into the corporate world and worked as a brand manager for Guinness. While working there, he made the television debut with the soap opera Generations and played the role of 'Lunga Zondo' in 1993. Then he made several notable appearances in the serials: Home Affairs, Housekeepers, MTV Shuga, Ring of Lies, Mzansi, Side Dish, Soul Buddyz and Single Guyz. [2]

He played the role 'Pabi' on the television serial Lithapo. However, after sexual harassment incident on Lorraine Moropa, he was fired from the show. [3] However he later dispel allegations of sexual harassment. [4] [5]

In September 2020, he appeared in the television serial Family Secrets. [6]

Rape Allegations

In June 2022 Ngema was charged with rape and released on bail after appearing at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court. [7] [8] [9]

Mbongeni Ngema was a South African playwright, lyricist, composer, director, choreographer, and theatre producer, best known for co-writing the 1981 play Woza Albert! and co-writing the 1988 musical Sarafina!. He was known for plays that reflected the spirit of black South Africans under apartheid, and won much praise for his work, but was also the subject of several controversies. He died in a car accident on 27 December 2023.

In October 2017, The New York Times and The New Yorker reported that dozens of women had accused film producer Harvey Weinstein of rape, sexual assault and sexual abuse over a period of at least 30 years. Over 80 women in the film industry eventually accused Weinstein of such acts. Weinstein himself denied "any non-consensual sex". Shortly after, he was dismissed from The Weinstein Company (TWC), expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and other professional associations, and retired from public view.

The #MeToo hashtag has trended in at least 85 countries. The campaign has encouraged people around the world to spread their stories of sexual assault. Before the MeToo movement went global, not many imagined that it would have taken off the way it did. The MeToo movement was founded in 2006 by Tarana Burke, an activist and survivor of sexual violence. The published report of a number of sexual allegations against Hollywood producer, Harvey Weinstein stirred up some Hollywood actors to get vocal against sexual harassment and their call for action to support in the fight against sexual violence. The MeToo movement has resonated with many people across all walks of life especially those who have been victims but were afraid to speak out or felt that they would not be heard.
