The Selle Français (SF) is a breed of sport horse from France. It is renowned primarily for its success in show jumping, but many have also been successful in dressage and eventing. An athletic horse with good gaits, it is usually bay or chestnut in color. The Selle Français was created in 1958 when several French riding horse breeds were merged into one stud book. The new breed was meant to serve as a unified sport horse during a period when horses were being replaced by mechanization and were transforming into an animal used mainly for sport and leisure.
Theodora Elisabeth Gerarda "Anky" van Grunsven is a Dutch dressage champion who is the only rider to record three successive Olympic wins in the same event. Along with her Olympic successes, she has won numerous medals at the World Equestrian Games (WEG), and is the only rider to have competed at every WEG since they began in 1990. Between 1990 and 2006, she competed at the Games in dressage, but in 2010 she was named as part of the Dutch reining team, marking a major change in discipline.
Nicole Uphoff is a German equestrian who competes in the sport of dressage. She won four gold medals in individual and team competition at the 1988 and 1992 Summer Olympics. Riding her star horse, Rembrandt, Uphoff also won numerous other international competitions, including the World Equestrian Games and the European Dressage Championships.
Steffen Peters is a German-born equestrian who competes for the United States in dressage. He has participated in five Olympic Games, winning a team bronze medal on two occasions and a team silver medal once (2020). Peters has been successful in numerous other international competitions, including winning team bronze at the 2006 World Equestrian Games, two individual bronze medals at the 2010 World Equestrian Games and individual and team gold medals at both 2011 and 2015 Pan Am Games. The horse upon which he won many of his titles, Ravel, was retired in 2012. After 2012, his international successes came on Legolas. At the beginning of 2017, Peters handed over the ride on Legolas to his assistant rider Dawn White-O'Connor. Peters is currently working with a new international competition horse, Rosamunde.
Mary Hanna is an Australian equestrian. She represented Australia at five Olympic Games in the equestrian discipline of dressage and has competed at the 2020 Games in Tokyo, where she finished 40th in the individual competition.
Kristy Oatley-Nist is an Australian equestrian. She represented Australia at the 2000, 2008, 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics in the equestrian discipline of dressage.
Lyndal Oatley is an Australian equestrian. She represented Australia at two Summer Olympics in equestrian dressage.
The equestrian events at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro were held between 6 and 19 August at National Equestrian Center in Deodoro. Medals were awarded in three disciplines for both individual and team competitions.
Lars Petersen is a Danish-born dressage rider, who has been competing internationally for the United States since 2017. He competed for Denmark at the 1996 Summer Olympics, where he placed 12th in the individual dressage competition. He won two bronze medals at the European Championships in team dressage.
Inessa Viktorovna Merkulova is a Russian Olympic dressage rider. She competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where she placed 23rd in the individual competition aboard Trakehner Mister X. She went on to compete at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo as well, during which she placed 12th in the team competition representing the Russian Olympic Committee, and 31st individually. Merkulova has also represented Russia at five World Equestrian Games, five European Dressage Championships, and seven World Cup Finals.
Hans Staub is a Swiss Olympic dressage rider. He competed at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta where he finished 6th with the Swiss team in team dressage and 27th in the individual dressage competition.
Diederik van Silfhout is a Dutch Olympic dressage rider. Representing the Netherlands, he competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics where he placed 4th in the team and 11th in the individual competitions.
Inna Volodymyrivna Logutenkova is a Ukrainian Olympic dressage rider. She represented Ukraine at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where she placed 41st in the individual competition. Logutenkova also competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo where she finished 47th in the individual competition.
Nicole Smith is a South African dressage rider. She competed at the 2014 World Equestrian Games in Normandy where she finished 20th with the South African team in the team competition and 48th in the individual dressage competition.
Belinda Trussell is a Canadian Olympic dressage rider. Representing Canada, she competed at two Summer Olympics. At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece she placed 9th in the team competition and 36th in the individual competition. 12 years later, she achieved 27th position in the individual event.

João Victor Marcari Oliva is a Brazilian Olympic dressage rider. He participated at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he finished 10th in the team competition and 46th in the individual competition.
Kim Dong-seon is a South Korean dressage rider. He competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, where he placed 43rd in the individual competition aboard Bukowski. He also competed at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, where he finished 55th in the individual competition.
Pedro Manuel Tavares de Almeida is a Brazilian Olympic dressage rider. He participated at his home Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, where he placed 10th in the team and 53rd in the individual competition.
