Marc Douglas Berardo is an American singer-songwriter. He was born in Port Chester, New York, and raised in Rye, New York. He currently resides in Westerly, Rhode Island.

Berardo's songwriting has been compared to that of John Prine, James Taylor and Jackson Browne and an acoustic Bruce Springsteen. [1] [2] [3] Berardo has been referred to as a possessing a "lonesome, clear voice easily carries an aching beauty" [4] as well displaying musicianship with "fluid, melodic string arrangements based on his acoustic guitar". [4] [5] About Berardo's 2013 release, Whalebone, John Apice wrote in No Depression, "The performances are sincere, fluid, charming and above all gripping". [6]

Videos from singles released in 2022 and 2023, The Hard Part (2022), Waiting on A Brand New Day (2022), and Letting You Blow Away (2023) were premiered by Americana Highways. [7] [8] [9]

Recognition

Berardo has been recognized in national song contests and showcases. He was awarded the 2014 Michael Terry People's Choice Award at the Wildflower! Arts and Music Festival Performing Songwriter Contest. [10] [11]

Berardo was also finalist in the 2015 South Florida Folk Festival Songwriting Competition, [12] the 2014 Grassy Hill Kerrville New Folk Songwriting Competition at the Kerrville Folk Festival, [13] the 2014 SolarFest Songwriter Showcase, [14] and the 2010 Sisters Folk Festival. [15]

Radio

Quiet Places (featuring Red Molly) Passing Through and Ruby from the Downhauler CD made the FOLKDJ-L radio list of Top Albums and Songs of April 2011. [16] My Mistakes (co-written with Abbie Gardner of Red Molly and My Friend from Whalebone made the Folk DJ radio list of the Top Folk Albums, Songs, Artists and Labels of September 2013. [17] The Beauty Of This Now released in 2024 made Folk Alliance International Folk Chart for June 2024. [18] SiriusXM Program Director and on-air host of The Village (Sirius XM) Mary Sue Twohy included Downhauler on her 2011 list of favorite soundtracks. [19] Sirius XM added The Hard Part single and songs from The Beauty Of This Now to rotation. [20] [21] [22] In September 2015, Mary Sue hosted Berardo on The Village Folk show that she later featured on a rebroadcast of 2015 listener favorites. As a working musician, Berardo tours year-round. He has shared stages with a number of well recognized artists and performers including: The Doobie Brothers; [27] John Haitt; [28] Red Molly, [29] [30] Livingston Taylor, [31] Cliff Eberhardt, [32] Kevin Welch, [33] Guy Clark, [34] The Pousette-Dart Band [35] [36] and Jimmy LaFave. Erelli has released nine solo albums and three collaborative albums. His self-titled debut album was released in 1999, the same year that he won the Kerrville Folk Festival's New Folk Award. The Kerrville Folk Festival is a music festival with camping, held for nearly three weeks each year, in late spring/early summer, at Quiet Valley Ranch near Kerrville, Texas. The festival draws around 30,000 people. It aims to present established artists and promote new talent.

Jonathan Byrd is an American singer-songwriter based in Carrboro, North Carolina. He is best known for his narrative tales of love, life, and death in America. In 2003, he was among the winners of the New Folk competition at the Kerrville Folk Festival. He set a record for CD sales at the festival that year, making more sales than the main stage acts. His song, "The Ballad of Larry" has been listed a "Top Rated Song" by Americana-UK. He primarily performs solo and accompanies himself in a variety of traditional acoustic guitar styles. His recordings have featured a variety of instrumental ensembles and typically include one or more instrumental tracks that feature Byrd's skillful flatpicking technique. Occasionally he also appears with the Athens, Georgia based world music duo, Dromedary.

Second Chance is the second studio release by Rhode Island–based singer-songwriter Marc Douglas Berardo. The songs are original songs by Berardo with a few exceptions. Berardo collaborated with Michael Branden to write "After the Show"; a song about the various carnival and circus workers that spent the off season in Gibsonton, Florida. The title track "Second Chance" was written Don Ojo Dunaway and released in 1995 by Rich Mountain Music. Long Way home was written by Don Henley and Danny Kortchmar.

The Canadian Folk Music Award for English Songwriter of the Year is a Canadian award, presented as part of the Canadian Folk Music Awards to honour the year's best songwriting in Canadian folk music. Unlike many songwriting awards, the nomination is given in consideration of all of the songwriting on a whole album rather than singling out individual songs. Awards are also presented for French Songwriter of the Year and Indigenous Songwriter of the Year.
