Marco Matias is the son of Portuguese immigrants who came to Germany in the 1970s. At the age of ten, he had his first experiences on stage when he was performing for a game circus, a project that arose in co-operation with Caritas and endeavored to inspire children for creativity. He himself got a lot of ideas out of this project. Shortly afterwards, he founded a duet with his brother Jorge and they had a lot of success presenting their songs – pop, rock and South American titles – at various private events.

The first band he joined when he was fifteen was called ‘Lua Cheia’. He gained his first studio experiences with his school band ‘The Basement Kids’ during the production of his first CD ‘Cry For Peace’. He then passed his higher school certificate examination and began his studies at the University of Cologne. But he never gave up his music; he worked as a backing vocalist, participated in jam sessions and had many other musical activities.

At that time, he got in contact with the Cologne A cappella ensemble ‘Voice Sings’ with whom he toured a lot.

In 2000, Marco and his band ‘Atlanticos’ participated in an ‘international Festival For Young People Of The Portuguese Communities 2000’. The festival was broadcast live to the Portuguese speaking territories all over the world. Portuguese people living in Australia, Macao, Brazil and other territories watched his performance and Marco and his band received a tremendous reaction from the televoters and made third place. They produced an album in Portuguese and were doing a lot of TV-Shows and radio performances in the following years 2001 and 2002.

In 2003, he was invited to a casting called ‘The German Voice 2003’. He was elected from among 12,000 candidates and entered the final with nine other competitors. In that final he became second.

‘A Miracle Of Love’ is the title of the song written by Ralph Siegel that Marco performed, together with Nicole Süßmilch, during the German pre-selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 and they again made a very good second place.

In 2006, Marco competed in the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 as a part of the group six4one, representing Switzerland, with the song, "If We All Give A Little".^[1]

six4one was a six-piece supergroup formed in November 2005 for the sole purpose of representing Switzerland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2006. The group was made up of six people who were chosen at a casting session that took place November 25–27, 2005. The group were not created as a long-term manufactured band, but instead as "six strong voices" who could collaborate at the contest, and then go their separate ways after the final.

Simone de Macedo e Oliveira, GCIH • GMC better known as Simone de Oliveira is a Portuguese singer and actress. She performed the Portuguese entries at the 1965 and 1969 editions of the Eurovision Song Contest.

Switzerland participated at the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 with the song "If We All Give a Little" written by Ralph Siegel and Bernd Meinunger. The song was performed by the group six4one, which was internally selected by the Swiss broadcaster SRG SSR idée suisse in November 2005 to represent the nation at the 2006 contest in Athens, Greece. "If We All Give a Little" was presented to the public as the Swiss song on 18 March 2006.

The competition took place on 10 March 2007 where the winner was selected exclusively by public televoting. "Dança comigo" performed by Sabrina emerged as the winner with 8,874 votes.

OTI Festival, often known simply as La OTI, was an international song competition, organised annually between 1972 and 2000 by the Organización de Televisión Iberoamericana (OTI), featuring participants representing primarily Ibero-American countries. Each participating OTI member broadcaster submitted an original song in Spanish or Portuguese to be performed on live television and transmitted to all OTI broadcasters via satellite. It was preceded by the Festival Mundial de la Canción Latina, held in 1969 and 1970 in Mexico.

Germany participated in and won the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 with the song "Satellite" written by Julie Frost and John Gordon. The song was performed by Lena. The German entry for the 2010 contest in Oslo, Norway was selected through the national final Unser Star für Oslo, organised by the German broadcaster ARD in collaboration with Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR) and private broadcaster ProSieben. The national final featured 20 competing artists and consisted of five heats, a quarter-final, a semi-final and a final held in February and March 2010. Regarded as one of the most popular modern rock musicians in the Albanian-speaking world, he is noted for his vocal range, vocal power, high-energy live performances, and is also recognised as an accomplished guitarist.

Laura de Carvalho Rizzotto is a Latvian-Brazilian singer, songwriter, pianist and guitarist. She released her debut studio album Made in Rio in 2011 through Universal Music Brazil, which included the single "Friend in Me". In 2014, she independently released her second studio album Reason to Stay, and independently released the extended play RUBY in 2017.

The Eurovision Young Musicians 2016 was the eighteenth edition of the Eurovision Young Musicians contest, which took place on 3 September 2016, outside the Cologne Cathedral, in Cologne, Germany. For a second consecutive time, German public broadcaster Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR) was the host broadcaster for the event, with Daniel Hope and Tamina Kallert being the presenters for the show. Musicians representing eleven countries with European Broadcasting Union (EBU) membership, participated in the contest, with San Marino making their debut, while Greece, Moldova, Netherlands, and Portugal decided not to participate in this edition. The candidates were accompanied by the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne, conducted by Clemens Schuldt. A five-person jury decided which of the participants would be awarded with the top-three prizes. Łukasz Dyczko of Poland won the contest, with Czech Republic and Austria placing second and third respectively.

RTP organised the national final Festival da Canção 2017 in order to select the Portuguese entry for the 2017 contest in Kyiv, Ukraine.
