Anthony Dean Ronaldson is an Australian former professional basketball player who played the majority of his career in the Australian National Basketball League (NBL). Known as "The Bear", Ronaldson played for the Eastside Spectres, South East Melbourne Magic, Victoria Titans, Perth Wildcats and New Zealand Breakers in the NBL. He played in seven NBL Grand Final series and won two championships, both with the Magic in 1992 and 1996. He also represented Australia at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta and again in 2004 in Athens

A new franchise, the South Dragons, was established in Melbourne, taking the number of teams to twelve.

Adrian "A. J." Majstrovich is a New Zealand-Australian former professional basketball player. He spent the majority of his 20-year career playing in the Australian NBL, New Zealand NBL and State Basketball League (SBL). He achieved the most success in New Zealand, winning two championships and earning the Rookie of the Year in 2003 and league MVP in 2004.
Shawn Michael Redhage is an American-Australian former professional basketball player who played 13 seasons in the National Basketball League (NBL). He played four years of college basketball for the Arizona State Sun Devils before moving to Australia in 2004 to play professionally. After spending time in the South East Australian Basketball League (SEABL) and with the New Zealand Breakers, Redhage joined the Perth Wildcats in 2005 and went on to played 12 seasons for the team.
Barry Douglas Hinson is an American college basketball coach and most recently was the head coach of the Southern Illinois Salukis men's basketball team (SIU). He was born in Marlow, Oklahoma. Before SIU he was the Director of Men's Basketball Operations at the University of Kansas, head coach of Missouri State University and head coach of Oral Roberts University. On March 28, 2012, Hinson was announced the head coach of Southern Illinois University's men's basketball team.

The Southern Illinois Salukis are the varsity athletic teams representing Southern Illinois University Carbondale. The nickname comes from the Saluki, the Royal Dog of Egypt and the Persian greyhound, which ties into the fact that southern Illinois has had the nickname "Little Egypt" for just under 200 years.
Corey Webster is a New Zealand professional basketball player for the Auckland Tuatara of the New Zealand National Basketball League (NZNBL). Darren Darnell Brooks is American professional basketball player. A 6'3" 205 pound (93 kg) point guard / shooting guard, Brooks' professional career began in 2005–06 and has taken him to numerous countries and leagues around the world. He is best known in the United States for his collegiate career at Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIU), here he was the back-to-back Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. Everard Verdon Bartlett is a New Zealand basketball coach and former player. He most recently served as the head coach of the Hawke's Bay Hawks of the New Zealand National Basketball League (NZNBL). Bartlett was a regular in the NZNBL between 2005 and 2022, playing the majority of those years with the Hawke's Bay Hawks. He also had various stints in the Australian NBL for the New Zealand Breakers, Perth Wildcats and Adelaide 36ers, and was a regular with the New Zealand Tall Blacks between 2012 and 2016.
Daniel James Dillon is an Australian former professional basketball player. He played college basketball for the Arizona Wildcats before playing professionally in Australia, Romania, Poland, Japan, and France.
The 2012 National Basketball League All-Star Game was held at the 8,000 seat Adelaide Arena in Adelaide, South Australia on 22 December 2012. The game was won by the South All-Stars, 134 points to the North All-Stars 114. Melbourne Tigers shooting guard Chris Goulding electrified the 4,523 in attendance, scoring 24 points, grabbing 5 rebounds and handing out 4 assists on his way to winning the game's MVP award. The game was broadcast on Network Ten in Australia and it was the first NBL All-Star Game since 2007–08.
The 2013–14 NBL season is the 32nd season for the Adelaide 36ers in the Australasian based National Basketball League. In 2012–13, the 36ers missed out on the playoffs for the 6th time in the past 7 seasons, finishing the season with the club's third wooden spoon with a record equalling worst ever 8-20 record. The Adelaide 36ers have won the NBL championship four times, earning Adelaide the nickname of "Title Town".
Shane McDonald is an Australian former professional basketball player. He had four stints in the National Basketball League (NBL) with the Singapore Slingers, Perth Wildcats, Melbourne Tigers and New Zealand Breakers. The majority of his career was spent in the South East Australian Basketball League (SEABL) for the Nunawading Spectres, winning a championship in 2011 and league MVP honours in 2013. In his final season, he helped the Spectres win the 2019 NBL1 championship.
The 2017–18 NBL season was the 40th season of the National Basketball League since its establishment in 1979. A total of eight teams contested the league. The regular season was played between October 2017 and February 2018, followed by a post-season featuring the top four in March 2018.
