Marerere Mwarpayo wa Mwachai is a Kenyan politician and was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Msambweni Constituency from 1997 to 2002. She also served as the assistant minister for Gender, Culture and Social Services. She lost the 1992 elections for Msambweni Constituency to Kassim Mwamzandi. She also lost the 2002 elections to Abdalla Ngozi. Mwachai worked as a school teacher before venturing into politics.
In November 1999, Mwachai was ordered by court to pay Jones Munyaga Ksh. 58,000 for attacking him while he was on duty. Munyaga claimed he blocked Mwachai from entering into St. Augustine's Preparatory School on a Sunday evening. Mwachai's daughter was a student at the school, and Munyaga worked as a night guard. The school's rules did not allow visitation on Sundays. When he blocked her, Mwachai told her security detail to cuff him up and forced her way into the school. [1]
In June 2017, Mwachai was accused by her adopted son, Shaahidin Rajab, for abandoning him. Mwachai adopted Rajab from Mama Fatuma Goodwill Children's Home in Eastleigh, Nairobi. He, however, says that he was overworked in the Mwachai household and was always the first suspect whenever household items went amiss. Mwachai, however, accused him of having been a trouble child who has had several run-ins with the law. Mwachai said that despite having schooled him at Msambweni Primary School from class one to eight, Rajab was constantly arguing with her firstborn daughter and stealing things from the house. [2]
Mwachai was the first woman in the Coast region to be elected to parliament.
In 2002 after then president Daniel arap Moi announced that Uhuru Kenyatta would be the KANU presidential candidate, many prominent KANU members ditched the party. Mwachai was one of the few who stayed put and backed Uhuru for the presidency. [3]
In July 2017, she ran for MP Msambweni Constituency on a New Vision Party ticket and lost . She is also the secretary general of the party.[ citation needed ]
In 2022 Mwachai lost Msambweni parliamentary seat to Feisal Bader.[ citation needed ]
Daniel Toroitich arap Moi was a Kenyan statesman and politician who served as the second president of Kenya from 1978 to 2002. He is the country's longest-serving president to date. Moi previously served as the third vice president of Kenya from 1967 to 1978 under President Jomo Kenyatta, becoming the president following the latter's death.
The Kenya African National Union (KANU) is a Kenyan political party that ruled for nearly 40 years after Kenya's independence from British colonial rule in 1963 until its electoral loss in 2002. It was known as Kenya African Union (KAU) from 1944 but due to pressure from the colonial government, KAU changed its name to Kenya African Study Union (KASU) mainly because all political parties were banned in 1939 following the start of the Second World War. In 1946 KASU rebranded itself into KAU following the resignation of Harry Thuku as president due to internal differences between the moderates who wanted peaceful negotiations and the militants who wanted to use force, the latter forming the Aanake a forty, which later became the Mau Mau. His post was then occupied by James Gichuru, who stepped down for Jomo Kenyatta in 1947 as president of KAU. The KAU was banned by the colonial government from 1952 to 1960. It was re-established by James Gichuru in 1960 and renamed KANU on 14 May 1960 after a merger with Tom Mboya's Kenya Independence Movement.

John Njoroge Michuki was a Kenyan politician and businessman. He was born at Muguru, village, Iyego Location, Kangema Division in Murang’a District. He was educated in Kenya and abroad. Michuki emerged as one of the prominent and long-serving civil servants and politicians as well as a businessman in Kenya. Michuki served Kenya in various capacities, including Permanent Secretary in the Finance Ministry, Chairman of the Kenya Commercial Bank, Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister. He was serving his 4th five-year term as a Member of Parliament for Kangema Constituency. Michuki had a reputation as a "ruthless" and efficient manager, and was widely acknowledged as among the best performing ministers in President Kibaki's Government. He was serving as the Minister for Environment and National Resources at the time of his death.

Martha Wangari Karua is a Kenyan politician. She is a former long-standing member of parliament for Gichugu Constituency and an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya. She was Minister for Justice until resigning from that position in April 2009. She has consistently fought for the protection of women's rights and improvements to the democratic process.

Kassim Bakari Mwamzandi is a Kenyan politician belonging to the Mijikenda ethnic group. He was KANU MP for the Msambweni Constituency from 1988 to 1997. He resides in Msambweni. Before entering politics at 23 years old, Mwamzandi served as a clerk in the African court. Serving in the regimes of Jomo Kenyatta and Daniel arap Moi, from 1975 he acted as an assistant minister in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Energy Ministry, Water Development and then the Ministry of Public Works.

The 2018 Kenya handshake was a political truce made on 9 March 2018 between Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga. The two had been the leaders of opposing political factions amidst widespread political violence and civil unrest, and they had faced one another in the contested 2013 Kenyan general election. Under the "handshake" agreement, both figures agreed to end their political feud.
Geoffrey Rigathi Gachagua is a Kenyan politician who has served as the Deputy President of Kenya since 2022. He previously served as the Member of Parliament for Mathira Constituency between 2017 and 2022 as member of the Jubilee Party. In the 2022 election, William Ruto selected Gachagua as his running mate, and the two were elected with just over 50% of the vote.
