Margaret Cookhorn is a British classical contrabassoonist and bassoonist. [1] She is Principal Contrabassoon and Bassoon with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, [2] bassoonist with the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group [3] and, notably, has pursued a career as a contrabassoon soloist. [1] John Woolrich's contrabassoon concerto Falling Down was written for her. [4] She most recently performed the piece at the BBC Proms in 2015. [5] [6] [7]

Cookhorn is a tutor at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire [8] and for the CBSO Youth Orchestra. [1]

The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire is a music school, drama school and concert venue in Birmingham, England. It provides education in music, acting, and related disciplines up to postgraduate level. It is a centre for scholarly research and doctorate-level study in areas such as performance practice, composition, musicology and music history. It is the only one of the nine conservatoires in the United Kingdom that is also part of a faculty of a university, in this case Arts, Design and Media at Birmingham City University. Simon Halsey, CBE is an English choral conductor. Michael Seal is a British orchestral conductor and classical violinist. Since 2011 he has served as the Associate Conductor of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO), having served previously as the orchestra's Assistant Conductor. He is only the second conductor to be given the title of Associate Conductor at the CBSO. The first was Harold Gray who served in that capacity for several decades until his retirement in 1972. In addition to his conducting, Seal played in the violin section of the CBSO from 1992 to 2014.

Harold Charles Gray was an English conductor, choirmaster, pianist and organist who served as Associate Conductor of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra from 1932 until 1979. He was also the Principal Conductor of the Carl Rosa Opera Company from 1943 to 1946, Director of Music at Holy Trinity Church, Sutton Coldfield for 50 years until 1981, and conductor of the Birmingham Choral Union for 20 years until 1975.
