Career

Malloy began working at APS in the late 1980s and joined the editorial team for Physical Review A, a journal that publishes research on atomic, molecular, and optical physics. [1] She later became managing editor of the journal.

In 1993, Malloy was appointed the founding editor of Physical Review E, a journal launched to cover topics in statistical physics, nonlinear dynamics, and soft matter. [1] She held this position until her retirement in 2015, after which she briefly served as consulting editor to support the transition.

Editorial work and publications

Malloy co-authored a 2003 newsletter article discussing the growth of biological physics as a publishing area within APS journals. [2] In a 2010 editorial published for the 40th anniversary of Physical Review A, lead editor Gordon W. F. Drake acknowledged Malloy’s contributions to the journal. [3]

Research

Before her editorial career, Malloy co-authored a research paper in 1983 that was published in Applied Optics . The study focused on optical distortions in high-power laser systems, specifically the impact of random phase errors in large-aperture lasers designed for inertial confinement fusion (ICF). [4] It presented theoretical models based on specific assumptions, offering early insights into beam quality issues in high-energy laser design.

Honors

In 2014, Malloy was named a Fellow of the American Physical Society. The citation recognized her editorial leadership and service to APS journals. [5]
