Margot & the Nuclear So and So's is an American rock band from Indianapolis, Indiana. Between 2006 and 2014, the band released 6 full-length albums.
The band's founding members, Richard Edwards and Andy Fry, met while teens. [1] Eventually, in 2004, the two formed Margot & the Nuclear So and So's, named after the character Margot in Wes Anderson's 2001 film The Royal Tenenbaums . [2]
Over time, many friends of Edwards and Fry in the Indianapolis area joined the band. [1] By the time their first album The Dust of Retreat was released in 2006, the band contained eight full-time members.
After a move to Chicago in 2009, Edwards began to experiment with a new band lineup, and eventually decided on a six-man group made up of some former members and some Chicago-area musicians. This new lineup allowed Edwards to take the band in a more rock-based direction, which could be seen in their next two studio albums Buzzard (2010), and Rot Gut, Domestic (2012). [3]
In an interview with blogger Adam Vitcavage, Edwards discussed his battle with Clostridioides difficile colitis as well as the future of the band. Edwards proclaimed, "I've threatened to break up this stupid band so many times, I don't want to continue crying wolf. That said, I don't currently see any real reason for Margot to continue." [4] [5]
The band's first full album, The Dust of Retreat, was released in 2005 through Standard Recording Company. It was remastered and re-released on March 26, 2006 by Artemis Records. [3] The style was described by MacKenzie Wilson as "cinematic chamber pop" that "both the casual music fan and music perfectionist will enjoy". [6]
Two full lengths were released on October 7, 2008, Animal! and Not Animal. All releases were by Epic Records. Four intimate live recordings of songs, two of which are exclusive to Animal!, were available for free download on the website Daytrotter.
There were delays in the release of the band's second full length due to disagreements between the band and Epic Records regarding the song selection of the album. Animal! is Margot's preferred version of the album, while Not Animal is Epic Records's. Five songs appear on both releases, out of the 12 tracks on each album. On their MySpace page, the band said they would like fans to listen to Animal! first. The band was a featured musical guest on Late Night with Conan O'Brien in November 2008. They played their new song "As Tall As Cliffs", one of the songs on both records.
The band released their third album, Buzzard, on September 21, 2010, via Mariel Recordings, their own label with distribution through Redeye. The album features many Chicago musicians and friends of the band, including Tim Rutili, Joe Adamik, Cameron McGill, Katie Todd, Brian Deck, and Ronnie Kwasman.
Their fourth album, Rot Gut, Domestic, produced by John Congleton, was released early to pledges for digital download via PledgeMusic on March 12, 2012. The CD and vinyl versions were released nationally on March 20, 2012.
Margot's fifth album, Sling Shot to Heaven was released on April 22, 2014 through the Mariel Records. Also released with this was a movie shot on 16 mm film entitled Tell Me More About Evil: A Film about Margot & the Nuclear So and So's. This film included stripped down versions of many album tracks and also included some voice narration. On November 4, 2014, the soundtrack to the film was released as a digital download, on vinyl, and on cassette tape.
Richard Edwards worked on compiling a rarities box set that encompassed all of their studio albums. In 2015, the band released The Bride On The Boxcar – A Decade of Margot Rarities: 2004–2014, through Joyful Noise Recordings. is broken up into five different eras on different albums. The five parts of the set are: "Hybristophilia", "PANIC ATTACKS (Low Level Bummer)", "Now, Let's Risk Our Feathers", "Dark Energy in the Spotlight", and "You Look Like the Future, Baby". Each disc represents an era in the band. It was released on vinyl and digital download.
On January 24, 2017, Edwards officially announced the release date of his first solo album, Lemon Cotton Candy Sunset. The album was released on March 31, 2017 via Joyful Noise Recordings. [7] The first single, "Disappeared Planets", was made available to stream on the album's website.
Stereophonics are a Welsh rock band formed in 1992 in the village of Cwmaman in the Cynon Valley. The band consists of Kelly Jones, Richard Jones, Adam Zindani, Jamie Morrison and touring member Tony Kirkham (keyboards). The group previously included the late Stuart Cable (1992–2003) and then Javier Weyler (2004–2012) on drums. Stereophonics have released twelve studio albums, including eight UK number one albums. A successful compilation album, Decade in the Sun, was released in November 2008 and charted at number two on the UK Album Chart.
The Electric Prunes are an American psychedelic rock band, formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1965. Much of the band's music was, as music historian Richie Unterberger described it, possessed of "an eerie and sometimes anguished ambiance." Their most successful material was by songwriters Annette Tucker and Nancie Mantz, though the group also penned their own songs. Incorporating psychedelia and elements of embryonic electronic rock, the band's sound was marked by innovative recording techniques with fuzz-toned guitars and oscillating sound effects. In addition, guitarist Ken Williams' and singer James Lowe's concept of "free-form garage music" provided the band with a richer sonic palette and exploratory lyrical structure than many of their contemporaries.
Animals Should Not Try to Act Like People is a career-spanning retrospective DVD plus bonus EP by American band Primus, released on October 7, 2003. The title was inspired by a crayon-made story book written by guitarist Larry LaLonde's son, and the cover depicts a sculpture made by long-time Primus collaborator Lance "Link" Montoya. The DVD features all of the band's music videos to date, plus short films and live footage from as far back as 1986, whereas the bonus EP features five new songs written and recorded specifically for this release. When promoting the release, bassist Les Claypool remarked that "It seems of late that bands are adding supplemental DVD material to their album releases to promote record sales. We've done the opposite. We've added a supplemental audio recording of brand new music to an extremely comprehensive DVD of classic visuals."
The Raveonettes are a Danish indie rock duo, consisting of Sune Rose Wagner on guitar, instruments and vocals, and Sharin Foo on bass, guitar and vocals. Their music is characterized by close two-part vocal harmonies inspired by The Everly Brothers coupled with hard-edged electric guitar overlaid with liberal doses of noise. Their songs juxtapose the structural and chordal simplicity of 1950s and 1960s rock with intense electric instrumentation, driving beats, and often dark lyrical content, similar to another of the band's influences, The Velvet Underground.
Space are a band from Liverpool, England, who formed in 1992 initially as a trio of Tommy Scott, Jamie Murphy and Jamie Island (drums), who was later replaced by Andy Parle. Keyboard player Franny Griffiths joined the line-up a year later, and the band signed to Gut Records in 1995, eventually rising to prominence with hit singles such as "Female of the Species", "Me and You Versus the World", "Neighbourhood", "Avenging Angels" and "The Ballad of Tom Jones", the latter a duet with Cerys Matthews of Catatonia.
Pungent Stench is a death metal band from Vienna, Austria, formed in 1988. Their current lineup consists of Martin Schirenc (vocals/guitar), Jacek Perkowski (bass), and Mike G. Mayhem (drums). Pungent Stench achieved prominence in the death metal scene due to their unique style of extreme metal and controversial lyrics, a blend of gore, paraphilia, and black comedy. They dissolved in 1995, re-formed in 1999, then split up again 2007 after recording a final studio album, eventually released in 2018, and re-formed again in 2013 as “The Church Of Pungent Stench” and renamed themselves again as “Schirenc Plays Pungent Stench” in 2014”
Suburban Rock 'n' Roll is the third studio album by Space, released on 8 March 2004. It is their first proper album release since 1998's Tin Planet. The tracks "Zombies", "Suburban Rock 'N' Roll" and "20 Million Miles from Earth" were released as singles, all of them failing to reach top 40.
Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin (SSLYBY) is an American indie pop band from Springfield, Missouri. They are named after Boris Yeltsin, the first President of Russia after the breakup of the Soviet Union. Their first full-length album, Broom, was independently released in 2005. They are now signed with Polyvinyl Record Co.
Magenta are a Welsh progressive rock band formed in 1999 by ex-Cyan member Rob Reed. Reed takes his influences from artists such as Renaissance, Genesis, Mike Oldfield, Yes, Eurythmics and Björk.
Pereza was a Spanish rock group from Alameda de Osuna (Madrid) comprising Rubén Pozo Prats and José Miguel Conejo Torres, artistically known as Rubén and Leiva. They have recorded six albums Pereza, Algo para cantar, Animales (Animals), Los amigos de los animales, Aproximaciones (Approximations) released in the summer of 2007, Aviones (Aeroplanes), released in August 2009, and a last compilation that includes two previously unreleased discs: “Mama Quiero Ser una Estrella del Rock'n’Roll” and “Baires”, recorded and mixed in Argentina. The group has also released two DVDs. The first was called Algo para encantar and it contains videos from their previous album Algo para cantar and some live tracks. The second DVD is called Barcelona, which is a recording of a live concert in that city along with a CD called Rarezas (Rarities), which contains previously unreleased tracks from the band's early days.

Lost & Found is the second compilation album by American rock band Marilyn Manson. It was released in Europe on May 5, 2008 by Polydor Records. It contains four songs from Marilyn Manson's first four studio albums and one from their only live album, The Last Tour on Earth. There are no previously unreleased songs, B-sides or rarities on the album, all tracks can be found on the band's various studio albums preceding it. As of mid-2008, Lost & Found is only available via digital download, an average rate of $2 per track. The only two songs that don't appear on most editions of Lest We Forget: The Best Of are "I Don't Like the Drugs " and "Irresponsible Hate Anthem".
Stop Us If You've Heard This One Before, Vol 1. is the seventh studio album and first covers album by British rock band The Wildhearts. Recorded at Madhouse Studios with producer Jase Edwards, it was originally released as a digital download on 19 May 2008 by Round Records, before a physical release on 7 July 2008. The album reached number 48 on the UK Album Downloads Chart, number 16 on the UK Independent Albums Chart and number 20 on the UK Rock & Metal Albums Chart.
Einstürzende Neubauten is a German experimental music group, formed in West Berlin in 1980. The band currently comprises founding members Blixa Bargeld and N.U. Unruh, long-time contributor Alexander Hacke, plus Jochen Arbeit, and Rudolph Moser, who both joined the line-up in 1997.
"Afterworld" is a song by American rock band CKY. Written by Chad I Ginsburg and Deron Miller, it was originally featured on the soundtrack to the 2010 film Jackass 3D, and was later included on the band's 2011 compilation album B-Sides & Rarities. The song is the band's first to feature Ginsburg on lead vocals, and it was released as a single on September 30, 2010.
Cheap Girls were an American rock band from Lansing, Michigan. The band consisted of brothers Ian Graham and Ben Graham, Jason Draper (Bass) and Adam Aymor (guitar). Formed in 2007, the band quickly began recording and touring, releasing their first album, Find Me a Drink Home in 2008. Together, they released four full-length studio albums. The band toured with bands such as Against Me!, The Gaslight Anthem, The Hold Steady, and The Bouncing Souls across the US and Europe. Their sound was often compared to The Replacements, The Lemonheads, and early Smoking Popes.
Quilt is a four-piece psychedelic indie rock band from Boston consisting of Anna Fox Rochinski (vocals/guitars), Shane Butler (vocals/guitars), Keven Lareau (vocals/bass) and John Andrews (vocals/drums). They have released three albums, an EP, and a handful of singles through Mexican Summer. The band tours internationally. They write collaboratively and share vocal duties. They were born out of a local improv scene, and combine elements of folk-rock, psychedelia and dream pop.
Kadavar is a German rock band from Berlin, founded in 2010. It currently consists of guitarist/lead vocalist Christoph "Lupus" Lindemann, drummer Christoph "Tiger" Bartelt, bassist Simon "Dragon" Bouteloup, and guitarist and keyboardist Jascha Kreft. Their retro style, incorporating psychedelic rock and stoner rock, has been compared to bands of the 1970s hard rock/heavy metal era such as Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. Bartelt and Lindemann formed Kadavar as a trio with bassist Philipp "Mammut" Lippitz. When Lippitz left the band in July 2013, he was replaced by Bouteloup. After releasing six studio albums, Kadavar became a quartet in March 2023 with the addition of Kreft.
Graduation Day 1966 is a live album by The Beach Boys, released on December 9, 2016. It was originally recorded in 1966.
