Maria Helena Taipo (born 12 August 1961) is a Mozambican politician who was Minister of Labor for ten years and has been governor of Sofala Province since 2015.

Early life and education

Taipo was born on 12 August 1961 in Chihilo village, Malema District, Nampula Province. She finished her schooling in 1979 and completed a bachelor's degree in education sciences at the Catholic University of Mozambique in 2000. In 2004, she completed a master's degree in educational management.

Career

Taipo is a member of the Mozambique Liberation Front and was appointed Minister of Labor in 2005 by President Armando Guebuza, [1] and was reappointed after the 2009 election. [2] [3]

After the 2014 presidential election, Filipe Nyusi did not keep Taipo in the cabinet, but on 19 January 2015 appointed her as governor Sofala province. [4] [5] [6] In 2015, during a confrontation between police forces and elements of the Mozambican National Resistance in Beira, Taipo intervened to assure that tensions would not lead to armed conflict.

The RENAMO insurgency was a guerrilla campaign by militants of the RENAMO party and one of its splinter factions in Mozambique. The insurgency was widely considered to be an aftershock of the Mozambican Civil War; it resulted in renewed tensions between RENAMO and Mozambique's ruling FRELIMO coalition over charges of state corruption and the disputed results of the 2014 general elections.

Ossufo Momade

Ossufo Momade is a Mozambican politician. He has served as president of the Mozambican National Resistance (RENAMO), the main opposition party of Mozambique since January 17, 2019. He assumed the presidency of the party after the death of its leader Afonso Dhlakama in May 2018 on an interim basis until he was elected president of the party at an internal congress held at the beginning of the following year. On August 1, 2019, Momade agreed to renounce violence and signed a peace agreement with Mozambique President Filipe Nyusi at RENAMO's remote military base in the Gorongosa mountains. This agreement resulted in the last remaining members of the RENAMO insurgency surrendering their weapons. A second signing ceremony then took place in Mapotu's Peace Square, which result in Momade declaring that he and members of RENAMO would now focus on "maintaining peace and national reconciliation."

Mozambique–Spain relations are the bilateral and diplomatic relations between these two countries. Mozambique has an embassy in Madrid. Spain has an embassy in Maputo.

Manuel Chang is a former Mozambican economist and politician of the FRELIMO party. From 2005 to 2015 he served as the Minister of Economy and Finance in President Armando Guebuza's cabinet. He replaced Luísa Diogo as Finance Minister in February 2005. His work as Finance Minister was intertwined in a debt scandal. In January 2015 when President Filipe Nyusi assumed office he replaced Chang as Finance Minister with Adriano Maleiane.

Ernesto Max Elias Tonela Mozambican economist and politician

Ernesto Max Elias Tonela is a Mozambican economist and politician who has been the Minister of Economy and Finance since March 2022. A member of FRELIMO, he had previously served as Minister of Industry and Commerce from January 2015 to December 2017 and as Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy from December 2017 to March 2022.
